The TMPD Cable Theft Unit arrested a Mozambican national in Hercules, Pretoria, after tracking a white Toyota bakkie suspected of transporting stolen copper.
Officers found two large bags of burnt copper cables at a scrapyard, which the suspect could not explain.
He allegedly assaulted an officer during the arrest and now faces charges including possession of suspected stolen copper, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.

MTN'S TAX CONTRIBUTION TO SA
MTN South Africa contributed R4.8bn in taxes to the national fiscus in 2025, according to its latest transparency report.
The total includes corporate income tax, payroll taxes, licence fees and dividends tax.
The company said this supports funding for essential public services such as education, healthcare and infrastructure.

Public Order Policing officers arrested a 44-year-old Zimbabwean national in Bellville, Cape Town, today after allegedly being caught selling controlled and scheduled medicine. Police found 27 bottles of cough mixture and cash in his possession during crime prevention patrols.
He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on 4 May 2026.

Julius Malema has compared Duduzile Zuma and Ngizwe Mchunu, saying they are being treated differently by the law.
He claims Mchunu was found not guilty over the 2021 July unrest and is still free despite moving around now inciting violence against foreign nationals, while Duduzile Zuma is facing legal scrutiny over “we see you” social media posts that he argues did not directly incite violence but it was after the violence.
