Earlier today, we joined stakeholders at the Post-Benchmarking Policy Roundtable organised by @FitspaUG in partnership with @UNCDF and shared lessons and insights from the Kenya Digital Lending Benchmarking Visit. The discussions explored policy positions for responsible digital lending, including credit information sharing, consumer protection, lawful consent, accountability, and interagency collaboration in regulation and enforcement. Stakeholders also highlighted the importance of transparency, fair treatment of consumers, data minimisation, accurate data sharing, and ensuring that regulatory frameworks support innovation while safeguarding individuals’ privacy rights. The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to build consensus and shape a trusted, inclusive, and responsible digital lending ecosystem in Uganda. #PersonalDataisPrivate #DataPrivacyUG

Today’s engagement brings together regulators, digital lenders, members of the Multi-Stakeholder Working Group on Responsible Digital Lending and Policy Action, and ecosystem stakeholders, to align perspectives on priority policy and regulatory reform actions for Uganda’s evolving digital lending sector. The roundtable builds on insights generated from the Digital Lending Benchmarking Visit to Kenya, conducted from March 30 – April 1, 2026, which brought together delegates from Uganda’s digital credit ecosystem, including regulators, digital lenders, policymakers, and ecosystem actors, to examine regulatory frameworks, supervisory approaches, market conduct interventions, and industry coordination mechanisms shaping Kenya’s digital credit market. The engagement forms part of broader efforts under the 10X Programme, implemented by @OutboxHub, @refactory_acad, United Nations Capital Development Fund (@UNCDF), and Women In Technology Uganda @wituganda, in partnership with the @MastercardFdn, to strengthen digital financial ecosystems and unlock inclusive access to finance for MSMEs, women, and youth.
