US Air Force Staff Sergeant Timothy Louis Bowles was a dedicated service member who was KIA at the age of 24 while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. On March 15, 2009, though he was not originally scheduled to work, Bowles again volunteered to take the spot of an ill comrade on a patrol mission. The security convoy was traveling near Kot in Eastern Afghanistan to inspect a recently rebuilt local school. While en route, his Humvee encountered an improvised explosive device (IED). The resulting explosion inflicted fatal wounds, claiming the lives of Bowles and three fellow service members.
