whenever we have conversation about teacher pay, I think we forget that even though most teachers aren't paid particularly well, there are states where it's shockingly abysmal. in my county in NC, you cap out at about ~$60k....after 25+ years of teaching.

@smarick @Kasparov63 I taught middle and high school science in 2000. Many of the students needed books written at the elementary level. It’s not a new phenomenon.

In 10 years, we'll realize young adults can't read, write, or think as well as they should. We'll wonder how we allowed students to offload huge chunks of their learning to AI. Today we're just watching it happen. This is the most obvious unforced error of our time.
