@karunchandhok It's not at all. It's been pretty much known if you followed Aston that Newey was given the role whilst they find somebody else capable.

🚨 Jonathan Wheatley is emerging as a potential target for Aston Martin’s Team Principal role. He’s understood to be happy at Audi, but personal reasons could still lead him to consider a return to the UK. Seidl remains Aston Martin’s preferred option. 🗞️ via @thomasmaheronf1

HEAD TO HEAD | 🇳🇱 Van Amersfoort is looking for stability in Formula 3 this year after having to replace one driver before the start of the season. Will Del Pino be the top driver as the only one with prior F3 experience? Or can Yamakoshi and Deligny hit the ground running? #F3

@bardsleyta It doesn't matter who they were fighting. In 2022 if you told me they were fighting a McLaren they'd be at the back and if you told me now they'd be fighting at the front. That truly means nothing. Mercedes were scoring higher in 2022 than 2025. The 2022 car was better. End of.

@underchosen But it wasn't. I've given you other statistics that suggest otherwise from qualifying, the fact they were battling alpine/haas for half a season & their gap to the fastest being larger which you've ignored. Using total points as your main point is incredibly misleading

@underchosen But the fact that Merc were having to deal with these 2 teams for half a season before they got on top of the bouncing & TD39 proves their car wasn't as good Vs 2025.

@bardsleyta The midfield was quite varied in 2022, only consistency was top 3

@underchosen They were midfield teams though & that just proves my point. The fact that Merc was fighting with these 2 teams plus Bottas from Alfa shows that the car wasn't good enough. Whereas in 2025 their car was closer to the front.

@underchosen A place or so but not significantly vs top cars. In 2022 Merc was battling with Haas & alpines for the first half of the year.

@underchosen Because there was no McLaren. Less competition at the front. The Merc objectively wasn't as competitive compared to 2025. Average qualifying for Russell in 2022: 6.45. Average qualifying in 2025: 4.38

@bardsleyta You can use your own argument against your point about the constructors position claiming that Red Bull didn't have a competitive 2nd driver etc etc.

@underchosen But you're using a misleading stat. Total points can be misleading. Would be like saying kubica was better than Russell 2019 cos kubica scored & Russell didn't. Merc finished 2nd in the constructors in 2025. A higher position than in 2022.

@bardsleyta It was a more competitive package overall, hence the higher avg points per race weekend.

@bardsleyta It's a very simple concept what I'm saying and I'm unsure why you're not getting it. You're judging a cars performance off of the cars around it whilst I am the actual facts and statistics.

@underchosen They didn't in 2022. Their car had fundamental issues with it. The 25 car didn't have that. Their gap to the front in 2025 was smaller than it was in 2022. All you need to do is look at qualifying performance & races.

@bardsleyta "There is correlation. The fact that McLaren were slower meant Merc even with a fundamental flaw with their 22 car didn't have as much competition." Again, this is F1. Each team has a year for that car. Mercedes did a better job that year than the competition.

@underchosen There is correlation. The fact that McLaren were slower meant Merc even with a fundamental flaw with their 22 car didn't have as much competition. It inflated their points tally cos they were only fighting Ferrari for podiums whereas in 25, they had McLaren as well as Red Bull.

@bardsleyta I don't understand why you keep saying "McLaren got better". Literally 0 correlation. W13 did its stats because it was on performance against the others. W16 didn't because the competition was better.

@bardsleyta Each team has the ability to develop their car every year or design a car a certain way. Merc did a better job than the competiton. Just because another team got better in 2025 it doesn't mean the previous car was worse or not as good, that's literally not how it works.
