Justice that reaches every community helps build a fairer Nepal ⚖️🇳🇵 True development relies on a legal system that works for everyone. In 2018, as Nepal transitioned toward federalism and decentralized governance, @UNDP partnered with the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the @nepalbar to launch the Access to Justice (A2J) initiative. By building digital legal aid networks, expanding community legal awareness, and training thousands of judicial actors, we are helping anchor a more transparent, responsive, and equitable legal foundation for the country. In 2025 alone, the @UNDP-implemented @GlobalFund programme reached more than 412,000 people from key populations across #Nepal, helping expand access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and psychosocial support. Behind these numbers are stories like Ram Prasad Sada's (now Parichan). For years, Ram Prasad lived in fear of stigma and exclusion after being diagnosed with HIV. Today, she is not only continuing her own treatment journey but also helping others access care and support without shame or fear. People are now finding something just as important as medicine: dignity, trust, solidarity, and hope. Commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (#IDAHOBIT), we reaffirm the importance of inclusive, representative, and accountable societies that uphold the equality, dignity, protection, and full participation of LGBTIQ+ people in all areas of life. At a time when discrimination and violence continue to threaten rights and civic space globally, standing in solidarity with communities and human rights defenders remains essential to advancing inclusion and justice for all. Mental health support is essential to an effective HIV response. Through the @UNDP-implemented @GlobalFund programme, the National Association of PLHIV in Nepal (NAP+N) and Recovering Nepal conducted a 3-day mental health training for ART counselors from 25 districts across all 7 provinces. The training strengthened counselors’ capacity to deliver integrated, rights-based, and person-centered care—linking mental health support, HIV services, GBV/IPV response, psychosocial counseling, and referral mechanisms for people living with HIV (PLHIV), female sex workers, and vulnerable communities. Similarly, participants enhanced their skills in identifying mental health risks, providing counseling, and connecting individuals with critical support services including psychosocial care, legal aid, rehabilitation, and emergency assistance. By investing in frontline service providers, this initiative is helping ensure that HIV care in Nepal goes beyond treatment—centering dignity, trust, wellbeing, and long-term support. Commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, we emphasize that stronger systems are built on respect for diversity and the equal rights of all individuals, including LGBTIQ+ people. Ensuring dignity and participation for everyone is fundamental to advancing justice and safeguarding human rights in every society. #IDAHOBIT #MentalHealth #HIVResponse #HealthForAll

“No one should suffer in silence.” For 15 years, Parichan Sada lived with fear, stigma, and isolation after being diagnosed with HIV. Today, she is helping others access care, treatment, and hope. Parichan was connected to an ART Centre supported by the National Centre for AIDS and STD Control (NCASC), where she began antiretroviral therapy (ART) and continues to receive regular follow-up care and psychosocial support. Through the @UNDP-implemented @GlobalFund programme, local partners including @BDSNEPAL and Sunaulo Bihani Samaj are helping bring HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and peer support closer to communities—ensuring people are met with dignity, trust, and respect at every step of care. Now a community advocate herself, Parichan is encouraging others to seek care without fear and reminding them that they are not alone.

The 2015 earthquake changed #Nepal forever, but it also sparked a movement of community-led resilience. Through an owner-driven approach, over 600,000 homes were rebuilt, not just as houses, but as earthquake-resilient sanctuaries. By training a local workforce and partnering with the National Reconstruction Authority, we turned a moment of crisis into a lasting blueprint for safer, more resilient living. UNDP’s Renewable Energy for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (#RERAS) project, supported by @NorwayinNepal and @finlandinnepal organized ‘A Joint Provincial Level Stakeholders’ Planning Meeting’ with key government officials from the agriculture and irrigation sectors of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. The meeting brought together representatives from five ministries and ten local governments to strengthen coordination and identify opportunities for functional collaboration in agricultural production, productivity enhancement, and market support among @MoALD_nepal, MoLMAC, local governments, and RERAS activities. This served as a platform for participating agencies to present their tentative budget and plan for the next fiscal year aimed at improving agricultural production, productivity, and market linkages. Representatives also identified overlapping and complementary activities, discussed collaborative approaches to implementation, and explored ways to avoid duplication while maximizing synergy and impact. Discussions further focused on strategies for sustainability, scalability, and effective communication to ensure long-term impact and stronger inter-governmental coordination in building resilient agri-food systems in West Nepal. #Energy4Food

Communities are at the heart of Nepal’s HIV response. Through the @UNDP-implemented @GlobalFund programme, in collaboration with the National Association of PLHIV in Nepal (NAP+N) and with technical support from @UNAIDS, a 3-day Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) training was conducted to strengthen community systems and tools. By equipping CLM leaders and District Focal Persons with skills in ethical, confidential, and high-quality data collection — including user feedback mechanisms, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews — the initiative ensures that service users’ voices directly inform improvements in HIV service delivery. Stronger data. Stronger advocacy. Stronger health systems.

Nepal’s landscape makes it one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. To address this challenge, we aren't just reacting to disasters, we are staying one step ahead. In collaboration with the government, development partners, and local communities, @UNDP is implementing early warning systems and pioneering flood risk reduction. Through smart, long-term investments in adaptation, we are helping local governments safeguard futures while opening doors for home-grown innovation. Our focus remains clear: building resilient systems that protect both nature and the people who call it home. 🤝 🎥 To watch the full story, visit: youtube.com/watch?v=67dAge… #ClimateAction #Resilience #UNDPNepal60 #CommunityFirst

Strengthening local justice in action ⚖️ During a monitoring visit to Bhageshwar Rural Municipality, Dadeldhura, @UNDP staff met with the Judicial Committee and community members who have benefited from the Help Desk established with support from @UNDPNepal. From land disputes to domestic and neighbor conflicts, many cases are now being resolved through dialogue and mediation which is saving time, reducing costs, and preventing escalation to formal courts. What stands out is the growing confidence and clarity of the Judicial Committee. With a stronger understanding of their mandate and legal boundaries, they are delivering justice effectively and responsibly at the local level. When local institutions are empowered, communities gain access to timely, inclusive, and accessible justice. Local solutions. Stronger institutions. Better outcomes for communities. Tourism in Nepal has become more than just a trek through the mountains, it is now a lifeline for rural communities. UNDP and partners through the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Programme (TRPAP), helped local families move beyond subsistence farming to lead their own community enterprises. From running village homestays to sharing cultural traditions, these opportunities specifically empowered women, Dalits, and marginalized Janajati groups to build their own economic futures. By diversifying travel to remote, unexplored places, we’re building sustainable infrastructure and jobs where they are needed most. 🤝 Learn about @UNDP’s current Tourism project with the Nepal Tourism Board: undp.org/nepal/projects… UNDP Nepal: Partnering for an inclusive future. #SustainableTourism #CommunityGrowth #InclusiveEconomy

This #EUDay, we celebrate partnerships that strengthen not only systems and infrastructure, but also local voices and community action. 🇪🇺🤝🇺🇳 Across Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim, local journalists are using storytelling to push disaster preparedness into public debate—highlighting risks, amplifying community voices, and holding decision-makers accountable before the next crisis hits. Supported by the @EUinNepal through @eu_echo, @UNDP’s SUPER-II project is helping shift disaster risk reduction from reactive response to proactive preparedness with local stories and community voices driving the conversation on resilience. Preparedness doesn’t start when disaster hits. It starts with awareness, conversations, accountability, and stories that make people pay attention. Read more: undp.org/nepal/stories/…
