okay so this is the my friend’s (from middle, high school, and college) parent’s second or third? home. we grew up in the chicago suburbs. just lots of ppl from my town (and the midwest in general) retire here. he was a grade older, so better friends with my older brother, but anyways, his parents bought it for about 5 mil 12 years ago. it’s gulf waterfront (not just intracoastal). and zillow currently zestimates it at 36 mil 🤯

oh one is licensed marriage and family therapist and one is licensed clinical social worker. we have different ethics boards. and different grad school curriculums so it seems. i’ve noticed some lcsw’s tell people they should break up. i don’t know if they are not supposed to do this. but i have seen it.

@nordaforda very much so. i personally love my father in law. he has always been nothing but good to me and has been a sort of father figure for me. he’s been in my life since i was 21. it’s his wife (the evil stepmother) who i don’t like. but she started it haha 🤣

therapists are borderline not allowed to give advice. if your therapist is giving you direct advice on how to handle a situation you genuinely need to leave asap

so this applies only to california- i don’t know about other states. but in california we are mandated to report abuse to the ada or cps if the abuse is taking place to a minor, an elder, or an adult with a disability. if it’s none of those things we cannot report it. we can give them psychoeducation on dv/intimate partner abuse- like give them the number/hotline to a shelter, etc. we can only report it if there is imminent danger that the perpetrator client reports in session like “i plan on hurting so and so” then we have duty to warn and also possibly “danger to other” or if one of the partners is in psychosis then it’s under “gravely disabled”. the other thing we have to watch for is if minors are in the home. if there is dv taking place and children are witnessing that falls under “child abuse/neglect” and we have to report that to cps. we also aren’t supposed to do couples therapy with a couple who has active dv. they are supposed to do individual therapy etc and be dv free for at least 6 months before doing couples therapy.
