Meta spent $20B building an AI team. Hired top researchers. Built custom chips. Open-sourced Llama. And now they may license Gemini. That should scare people more than it excites them. If a company with 3.6B users and $20B in investment struggles to keep up… how many companies actually can? Frontier AI might not end up as a competitive market. It might become infrastructure. And infrastructure markets don’t produce 20 winners. They produce 2 or 3 platforms everyone else builds on. Think about what that means. If Apple licenses Gemini… and Meta licenses Gemini… Google stops being “a search company.” It becomes the intelligence layer underneath the internet. And if that’s true, the entire enterprise software stack changes. Salesforce, Workday, ServiceNow, the whole SaaS layer — they aren’t selling software anymore. They’re selling interfaces to intelligence they don’t control. The real AI divide may not be chatbot vs chatbot. It may be who owns the models vs who rents them. And that’s a very different map of the tech industry than most investors are still using.
