The Strategic Examination of Research and Development provides a major opportunity for Australia to strengthen its innovation system as the nation works to lift productivity and ease cost-of-living pressures. Backing #research and #innovation is how Australia creates new jobs, strengthens the industries we already have and builds the new ones that will power a bigger and more prosperous country. With productivity stalling and a changing global economic and geopolitical environment creating both challenges and opportunities, the final report comes at a critical time – and the government now has an opportunity to embrace its recommendations and act. @JasonClareMP @ayrestim Read the full media release here: universitiesaustralia.edu.au/media-item/rd-… #auspol #highered

On International Day to Combat Islamophobia, we reaffirm that racism, discrimination and hate have no place in our universities or in our communities.   Australia’s universities bring together people from every background, faith and culture. That diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and it must always be supported by campuses that are safe, respectful and welcoming for all.   We stand firmly against Islamophobia and all forms of racism, hatred and discrimination. Universities Australia and our members remain committed to fostering inclusive environments where every student and staff member feels safe, respected and able to fully participate in university life.

As part of International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the extraordinary women across Australia’s universities – the academics, professional staff, leaders and Vice-Chancellors whose work shapes our institutions and the nation.   Every day, women across our universities educate the next generation, drive discovery and innovation, support students and strengthen the communities our institutions serve. Their impact is felt in classrooms, laboratories, boardrooms and communities across the country.   Your leadership, expertise and dedication are helping build a stronger, more inclusive higher education sector and inspiring the next generation of women to follow in your footsteps.   Thank you for the contribution you make to our universities and our country every day. #IWD

We need more doctors and we need more GPs. That’s why from today, we’ve opened up applications for more universities to train more doctors across the country. This is on top of the extra places we have already announced. When fully rolled out, this will mean 1,800 more medical places at uni than before we were elected. We’re delivering three times the number of new medical places than the Coalition, in half the time.

UA supports the government’s focus on building stronger TAFE–university pathways. A more connected tertiary system will help Australians move more easily between vocational and higher education, build skills faster and meet the workforce needs of a growing economy. We look forward to working with government and our members to strengthen these pathways and deliver the joined-up tertiary system Australia needs. ministers.education.gov.au/clare/quicker-…#auspol #highered #skills @JasonClareMP @andrewjgiles

@OECD evidence shows 26% of adults have low literacy and 29% low adaptive problem-solving skills even among tertiary-educ. populations. As AI reshapes tasks, capability matters more than credentials alone. Glad 4 #OECDCentre4Skills to join virtually -even if almost at midnight😉

The growth equation — skills, inclusion and productivity. El Iza Mohamedou @ElIzaMohamedou, Head of the @OECD Centre for Skills, delivers her keynote address highlighting that when #universities, employers and governments act together, participation rises and inequalities shrink. A powerful reminder that collaboration is central to building a more inclusive, productive economy. #UASolutionsSummit #Skills #Inclusion #Productivity
