I’ll chime in. I use a soundcard for my HTPC. I’m in a small apartment, and use a 3.1 audio setup. Modern dialogue is often mixed quite poorly, and having a center channel MASSIVELY helps with intelligibility. I use a projector screen, so the left and right channels are far enough separated that a plain 2.0 channel system “phantom center” is quite poor outside of the sweet spot. Home theater receivers can support many channels, but are quite expensive and usually have poor quality amplifiers. With a soundcard, I can use several, independent, higher quality amps for each channel. Plus, if you want to go REALLY crazy with it, you can then apply per-channel EQ / room correction via software, which is much easier to do with a full PC + soundcard. afaik, there’s almost no such thing as a multi-channel USB dac, they are all stereo. (the limiting factor with my setup compared to a traditional receiver is I basically *have* to use my htpc for everything (hard to plug in arbitrary inputs) but that’s a small price to pay).

New sound card released. I don't really see the point these days, especially when most people into music already have a USB DAC. Am I missing something here?

@ze_rusty I’ve been thinking one could tape on some orange-tinted cellophane to the current iPhone flashlights. Certainly an inexpensive option

Nervous system practice through breathing/breath-holding regulation can be a highly effective component of @DrJackKruse “defragmentation” but only if it’s stay away from breath-holding performance. If you practice the basic, gentle progressions then it will support your defrag. It’s not an “either or” proposition it’s based on how you do it. The medicine is in how you approach it.

Exercise is a toxin when the CSF is lattice locked by D+. Know that. De-frag first.
Smart Science@SmartScience

New MRI study shows weekly exercise literally keeps your brain younger. A new year-long study suggests that regular exercise may help the brain stay biologically younger, adding to the long list of reasons to be physically active. In the trial, 130 healthy adults aged 26 to 58 were randomly assigned either to follow standard World Health Organization exercise guidelines—about 150 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous activity—or to continue their usual routines. MRI scans taken after 12 months showed that those who met the exercise targets had brains that appeared, on average, about 0.6 years younger than their actual age, while the control group’s brains looked roughly 0.35 years older than their chronological age. Although those absolute changes were modest, the nearly one-year gap between groups could accumulate over decades and may be important for protecting thinking skills and resilience against conditions such as dementia. Researchers tried to understand why exercise might slow brain aging by checking several possible pathways, including cardiovascular fitness, blood pressure, and certain beneficial proteins. Surprisingly, none of these fully explained the link, suggesting that other factors—such as subtle changes in brain structure, inflammation, or blood vessel health—may be involved and need further study. The team plans to expand this research to larger and more diverse groups, including people at higher risk of cognitive decline. Still, the findings support current public health advice: getting at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic exercise in midlife may help the brain stay biologically younger for longer. @random20949931 @DrJackKruse @ErwanLeCorre Thankfully both your tweets and Grok align with my practices and understanding of Dr. Kruse's de-frag theory. Glad I'm not missing out on something basic. Had been wondering about his VNS tweet re Peterson and whether VNS was also "essential"

@unify33333 @adiel_mallik @DrJackKruse This is about directionality, not intensity. The SAA is about a weakened field thus improper biology functions and less shielding. This green line isn’t about strength of field so I think it helps to understand the answer to his question

@DrJackKruse I believe this NOAA map the most detailed SAA/Magnetic Declination map available. Looks like El Salvador is far less affected than most of America, including Florida:

@adiel_mallik @DrJackKruse If I understand NOAA's Magnetic Declination Viewer correctly, El Salvador is essentially perfectly situated for a neutral agonic line, which I believe is the SAA concern. Florida seems fairly affected by Magnetic Declination:

@DrJackKruse @DrJackKruse Isn’t El Salvador technically closer to the South Atlantic Anomaly compared to Florida? Or is your main hypothesis is that it doesn’t matter because El Salvador’s volcanic activity protects it from any localized weakness of earth’s EM field?

@zaidkdahhaj I've been wondering what an effective skincare product protocol looks like when abiding by circadian principles. Especially with SPF and tret not viable. Currently using tallow+honey soap followed by tallow balm. But thinking of adding GHK-Cu if sun-safe.

check it out for yourself -- themahjong.guide ! finally, some thoughts on ai/design tools: claude design is really good at executing broader frontend layouts and animations but much less reliable at pixel-level refinement and asset design. also, special shoutout to @shedsgns's ascii art generator -- super fun to use !

built an interactive guide to teach you the basics of mahjong ! 🀄 it includes rulesets from different regions (hk and taiwan for now) with a few interactive elements to illustrate mahjong concepts. more demos in thread, and a bit about the tools i used to build this. the one thing this guide can’t really capture is how social mahjong is -- mahjong tables are never silent ! they’re full of overlapping conversations and the constant click-clack of acrylic tiles stacking and shuffling against each other. come to @modal's mahjong night tmrw to experience that part for yourself : )

Eugenol (the main compound in clove bud water) is amazing for histamine and allergies. But for those with MCAD or MCAS, it can also greatly reduce the histamine in high-histamine foods, and that is a game-changer! Eugenol is the powerful active ingredient found in clove bud water. Research shows it mostly helps calm histamine rather than increase it. Eugenol stabilizes mast cells and reduces histamine release: In laboratory studies, eugenol prevented mast cells from releasing histamine when triggered. It lowered blood histamine levels and even completely prevented severe allergic reactions. Source: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9508673/ It can ease allergic responses: Eugenol has been shown to reduce IgE-mediated allergic reactions and skin allergy test responses in research. A related compound also lowered the activity of the enzyme that makes histamine. Study: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9508673/ It may relieve histamine-related itch: When applied to the skin, eugenol reduced histamine-induced itching and improved skin in models of atopic dermatitis (eczema-like conditions). It appears to work partly by calming certain itch-signaling pathways. Study: researchgate.net/publication/34… A HUGE Bonus for those with Mast Cell Activation Disorder or Syndrome in food science: Eugenol prevents natural surface bacteria from producing histamine in fermented and other high-histamine foods, keeping levels lower. So, yes, us folks with MCAD or MACS should be adding a bit of our clove water to our foods. This may be a game changer!
