ok in retrospect i suppose that was somewhat obvious

i don't understand blurs very well at all but it seems like feathering a mask creates texture that can't easily be replicated by a blur effect

i guess my excuse of "but it's not even CG" is no more compelling than james cameron being like "but they're doing the purest form of acting"
