It’s true, every halfway intelligent right winger I know irl had a massive conflict with at least one elementary teacher over things like: reading ahead, reading too difficult books, not showing enough work, etc etc. it’s the first time we experience the uncaring tyranny of state bureaucracy and it sucks.

The Bible tells me to support the Children of Israel: “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” It says nothing about a Pope. The first Pope was Siricius (384–399 AD). So we went 320 years after Peter's death during the most formative time in the Christian church with NO Vicar of Christ (Christ's representative/deputy on earth)? If the Pope is so important, then how did the early Christian church survive 320 years without one? Sorry but for me, the Pope doesn't "stand in the place of Christ." Jesus does that just fine all by himself.

As a Catholic, I know exactly what just war doctrine teaches. It is not one-sided. So when the Pope called Trump’s Iran stance “unacceptable” and the war “madness,” Trump was right to speak up. Iran fears strengths not sermons.

@JamesSurowiecki It may be true that the Iran War is not a just war. But as VP, Vance is expected to put those views aside and support Trump as top of the ticket. If he publicly broke from Trump or even resigned, the pro-war crowd would claim he was a papist beholden to the Vatican.

The problem for Vance, as a Catholic, is that the war on Iran does not plausibly qualify as a just war according to the conditions laid out in the Catholic catechism. More problematically for him, just wars in Catholic theology are wars that are necessary - they must be waged in self-defense, and only when there is no other option. But Vance himself opposed the decision to go to war. That tells you he believed not waging war was a reasonable option, which therefore means that the war is, again according to Catholic theology, not a just war.
