Blessed Lent, everyone!
Lent reveals the God who suffers in the Person of Jesus Christ. God’s image-bearers move from the dust of fallen Adam toward the glory of the risen Final Adam. To disconnect Lent from the Church Calendar is to disparage history and fracture human coherence.
Martin Luther once observed, “The calendar and the order of feasts exist so that the Gospel may be preached in its fullness throughout the year.” The seasons do not replace the Gospel; they give it rhythm in time.
This Lenten-tide, I aim to offer 40 meditations through various biblical texts to ground us in our Trinitarian faith. May your Lent be holy and merry.

@uribrito I’m near the end of graduate seminary in Biblical Languages. I’ve just enrolled for my Thesis Proposal class, then next and last is to defend. Prayers appreciated.

I have written about the case for seminary, so let me add just a few words here.
Seminary isn’t a biblical requirement for ordination, but it has been the church’s ordinary and wise means of preparation. The issue isn’t validity but fitness. Shepherding involves doctrine, counseling, conflict, and long-term shepherding, and untrained pastors often learn at the congregation’s expense.
Seminary doesn’t finish a man, but it forms him under correction before responsibility. There are real exceptions, yet for most recognized young candidates, the prudent path remains church recognition, seminary formation, supervised ministry, then ordination.
See my three recommendations below.

Many churches, when looking for a pastor, require him to have a degree. Should a man have a biblical degree to qualify as a pastor?

Had a nice chat with a Fox journalist about our @MakeKidsGreater campaign.
He went into activist mode saying we need SS marriage so gays can adopt.
Never be intimidated by that line. Child-centric framing is the proper response to all objections.

@uribrito Well I do believe I'll be having pancakes this eve.

Happy Shrove Tuesday! Here’s overview of this fatty and abundant day!
“Shrove Tuesday is a day of feasting. It marks the conclusion of the Epiphany Season. On this day, the Church feasts before she enters a more solemn and penitential season called Lent, known as the Season of Confession. Shrove Tuesday is celebrated with a pancake dinner, accompanied by eggs and syrup, and bacon can be added, and it should. This day allows the Church to celebrate once again the abundance of the Gospel in our lives and in the world, for the glory of the Epiphany season, which is that Jesus has given us life and life more abundantly.”

@StuartAmidon I’m using Andy Naselli’s booklet. Lots of great discussion.

In the Transfiguration of our Lord, Jesus takes the disciples to the mountains. Mountains are places of worship in the Bible; they are types of the heavenly city, the shining Zion of God.
The Father invites representative saints of all ages to this glorious gathering of the saints. He brings Moses, who defeated and shattered the false idols and delivered God's people from tyranny, and Elijah, who, by divine power, manifested Yahweh's authority over Baal.
Yet Moses and Elijah are not chosen to bring light to the world; they are not chosen to reveal Yahweh to the nations; they are not chosen to destroy the devil and death; and they are ultimately not the ones to whom we must listen.
The Gospels say: “He (Peter) was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
Jesus is Creation’s light-bringer. He is exalted above every name and above all gods. He is the greater iconoclast and the greater Moses and Elijah, transfigured to bring his dazzling glory to the nations, robed in resplendent light and radiant majesty. We heed his call and listen to his voice, singing with the saints, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts!
On Transfiguration Sunday, the Church ascends to that holy mountain to join angels, archangels, and all the company of heaven to hear from the Son of God. Come, let us adore him and behold the King in beauty!

@DPCassidyTKC David, I’m so sorry to hear this: May the Lord grant you a steady recovery.
English

On 12/6/25, I was struck by a car while cycling.
There's a long way yet to go in my recovery. I haven't felt free to say anything about it here - much bigger issues are going on in our world, and my pain is tiny by comparison. But some have asked for an update.
First, I am so grateful that the injuries weren't worse than they were, and I'm also thankful for the medical professionals who've cared for me. My family has been incredible, and @src_church members, staff, and ministry team have, as always, been amazingly supportive.
In short, I hope to hear this week that I can begin some weight-bearing on the leg that was badly broken. I know it's going to be a year before it is fully restored, but these "baby steps" and PT are now on deck. I'm eager to get going.
To those among you who pray, I ask you to join me in praying for all medical personnel who serve so many. Would you pray for my recovery and that God will grant me patient endurance until then? Pray that this trial will bring me closer to Jesus, deepen my faith and love, and make me more fruitful in his service.
And together, let's pray this morning for all who suffer and for those who serve them, for the spread of Jesus' gospel in our sin-torn world, and that Christ's church will shine his life, light, and love to all. The Lord is good, and his mercy endures forever.
Lord, hear our prayer.

Imagine a home so ideologically twisted that it would cause a kindergartener to hate life and love death at the age when little girls should wish to cradle their little dolls to sleep at night.
A home where slogans replace lullabies and cynicism replaces wonder. Where a child is taught suspicion instead of trust, grievance instead of gratitude. Where adult anxieties are poured into a child-sized soul.
At six years old, she should believe in birthday parties, scraped knees that heal, and fathers who chase away monsters. She should whisper tenderness to her dolls because she has first received tenderness herself.
But when false ideology catechizes the nursery, life begins to look like a burden and death like a release. That is not enlightenment. It is the theft of childhood.
