@usefulcabl In the end, it was informative. As much as I totally disagree with you, politicians waste a lot of time trying to please voters with "lower immigration" precisely because a lot of people use "immigration" to mean something else.

Carney is super popular, in part thanks to not being Trump. Starmer super unpopular and on the way out. But both attempted the same experiment: radical policies to cut migration numbers because that's "what voters want" Result: voters "who care about migration" just ignore it

@RenaudFoucart That's a good point, mass immigration to Italy is more recent, so I tend to forget that many in the UK are citizens. Here I've genuinely never seen a white food delivery worker so I'm biased. Great news if the point system works, everything else still stands obviously.

@usefulcabl I think you confuse "migrants" and "ethnic minorities." Where I live (NW) most drivers are white. Some are migrants pre point system. Some illegals. Some are dependent who want to earn money (I know a rich Saudi guy who delivers pizza cuz his wife does a PhD and he's bored)

@STLD98 @RenaudFoucart I didn't say crime numbers, I said crimes, seeing a foreigner commit heinous crimes as they often do generates a bigger backlash than a native, this is not racism per se, it's a very understandable reaction.

@RenaudFoucart Yep, these people will eventually grow old and be a burden on the UK state. In any case, this is not REALLY the problem because nurses/care wrks are =~ all women, and women are not troublesome, which goes back to what I was saying about what people don't like about immigration.

@RenaudFoucart They don't fix the birth rate, they don't fix pensions, they don't really fix healthcare (they're poor, remember, so they use it more than the general population!)
