@STLD98 @lukeisamazing @barbarismcrit You are literally doing the thing I said people are doing. I don’t care about people’s perception. I don’t know if the situation is worst than 2008 or not because we haven’t had a downturn to expose what parts of the economy are pure bullshit.

@STLD98 The "economic data" that excludes any material metric and is solely used and made for so the line is always shown to go up, yes. It's useless.

The difference between the great recession and now is when the great recession happened, the great recession didn't happen yet so we had hope things could improve. How you see "the economy" refers to how you see it long term not just NOW, and people older than you have lost hope
Basil🧡@LinkofSunshine

I’m surprised just how many people are willing to look me straight in the eyes and say the current economy is worse than the Great Recession

Because you morons have a fundamental misunderstanding of sentiment polling. People don't in the abstract think it's "worse than 2009" (although things are bad right now and will get worse) they *have no confidence that things will improve from now* because why would they!

@STLD98 The vibecession is your ilk thinking that these graphs demonstrating near useless metrics have anything to do with the real world. Millions of people are reporting how they can barely afford anything and you answer is always "but muh graphs". Useless fucking degree.

@testosteroneHAV Not when a huge number of the people being imported go straight onto that welfare system.

@StatisticUrban interesting theory: Gen X and Boomers are the ones actually the most poisoned by social media, as non-digital-natives

Narrative violation: Gen Z has the highest consumer confidence. Gen X and Boomers are the pessimists. I do feel that undercuts many of the material explanations for the vibecession, insofar as uniquely awful economic conditions for young people are a main driving force.

@JeremiahDJohns @StatisticUrban Yep this is my theory. They interact with the economy the least and therefore believe social media narratives more. Silent generation is actually so old they don’t use social media as much so they actually are a little more positive.

@landOffering Real wages are higher than ever. Why did you not bother looking at if purchasing power had actually fallen for the average person before trying to make this point. Are you stupid or did you know it was bs and think I was too stupid to notice?

@STLD98 if you think the number going up is the whole story and you have never heard of purchasing power sure

@scantierrr Real wages are up. Economic pessimism is most prominent among older age groups with high rates of home ownership. You feel like these points you are making are true because it’s what you’ve heard on social media but it’s not actually the case. Hence it’s a vibecession.

@STLD98 Maybe because working in understaffed places (which is every place now) while earning wages that barely cover groceries and make it impossible to own a house while each year everything gets more expensive and shittier has to do with that. Did any economist ever think about that?

@STLD98 @MishimaFudanshi The actual economic issue is that the economy for real people who have to engage with the real economy is not good, has only gotten worse for their whole lives, and shows no signs of ever meaningfully improving.

It's funny that big lib (read: neolib) accounts here are puzzled as to why people are doing and feeling terrible about the "economy" which is "doing good", they seem to be unaware that come harvest season and a bit later 30 million people globally will go into poverty.
