With respect, this idea that match going fans should simply stop buying tickets mostly comes from accounts that I’d imagine, either don’t go to games or don’t really understand how ticket allocation at Chelsea actually works. We have around 28k pre paid season ticket holders. Those tickets are already accounted for. Then you’ve got around 4–5k allocated to members and roughly 3k to away fans. The rest is largely corporate allocation, which the club have continued to increase year on year since Blueco arrived. There are also rumours they’re looking at using East Lower, currently the designated family stand, for even more corporate allocation going forward. On top of that, our minority owner has a vested interest in tickets being sold through third party resale platforms like Vivid Seats at inflated prices, with many ending up in the hands of tourists and day trippers. Which they can monetise further. So the idea that match going fans should just “stop buying tickets” and Stamford Bridge suddenly empties out simply isn’t grounded in the reality of how the ticket allocation operates. If supporters want to hurt the club financially, a boycott of merchandise or spending in the concourse before games and at half time is probably far more realistic.
