@CarterCenter President Carter stood up vigorously for human rights, including for women. The US Women's Caucus is grateful that on behalf of the United States, President Carter signed the women's treaty, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
We’re so grateful to Presidents Biden, Obama, Bush, and Clinton for contributing messages for President Carter’s 100th birthday concert. The audience was thrilled! Today, on President Carter’s actual birthday, we’re delighted to share excerpts from those with the world.
📌 The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women #CSW, held every March in New York, around a certain theme to advance women's rights and ensure gender equality, will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the #BeijingDeclaration and Platform for Action next year.
Abdulaziz M. Alwasil, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, was elected as the chair of the UN #CSW69 Bureau (on the suggestion of the Asian group of countries in the UN, with no objection from any of the member states).
The Bureau plays an important role in shaping the initial draft of the Agreed Conclusions and the CSW69 agenda for next year. No member state raised an objection, but WE OBJECT to the appointment of the ambassador of a country with a very bad record of equality between men and women to this position. We are watching with concern. #CSW69#Beijing+30 @UN_Women@unwomenturkiye
@KirmiziBiberDer We hope that the leadership of Saudi Arabia @ksamissionun at the UN Commission on the Status of Women #CSW69 will bring renewed vigor to women's human rights in their country.
11-22 Mart tarihleri arasında yapılan, Kadının Statüsü Komisyonu 68. Oturumu sonuçlandı. 2025’de yapılacak, KSK 69. Oturumunu yönetecek büronun başkanı olarak Suudi Arabistan Büyükelçisi Abdulaziz M. Alwasil seçildi. Seçim, sivil toplum örgütlerinin tepkisini çekti. KSK69, Pekin 95 Deklarasyonunun 30. Yıl dönümüne gelmesi dolayısıyla ayrı bir önem taşıyor.
CSW68 has concluded. Following the closure, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador Abdulaziz M. Alwasil was elected as the chair of the bureau to lead the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69). The selection sparked reactions from civil society organizations. CSW69 holds particular significance as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995. @NGO_CSW_NY@uswomenscaucus@kadinih@kadinkoalisyonu@esik_platform@EsitlikVeAdalet@cs_mucadele@SisterlabC@unwomenturkiye@UN_Women#CSW68#CSW69#Beijing95
Beijing +30 is a great opportunity for advancing women's human rights globally. We call upon Saudi Arabia @ksamissionun as the new head of CSW 69 to lead a vigorous review with robust involvement by member states and civil society @NGO_CSW_NY@KirmiziBiberDer@UN_Women#CSW69
Think of it. An American woman with an unviable pregnancy had to flee her home state to get life-saving medical attention. The message of the Cox case is clear: it is time to put the #EqualRightsAmendment in the Constitution. Read more here rb.gy/a209ij
It is completely unacceptable: Three women are killed by an intimate partner every day in the US. We support the US National Strategy to End Gender-Based Violence with its focus on prevention, safety, and economic security. whitehouse.gov/wp-content/upl…
BREAKING NEWS
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2023 #NobelPeacePrize to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.
#NobelPrize
The US Women's Caucus congratulates #NargesMohammadi, 2023 #NobelPeacePrize winner. It is an outrage that she is serving a 10-year prison sentence in Iran for fighting for women’s rights. She was arrested along with an est. 20,000 others, the fight is far from over there.
The Caucus mourns the death of Senator Diane Feinstein who championed many feminist causes – abortion rights, gun control, and the Violence Against Women Act. A trailblazer, she served as a true role model for women in politics everywhere.
We congratulate Patricia Bradley who was invited to be a member of the International Civil Society Working Group for the United Nations Permanent Forum on the People of African Descent.
Shame on all of the Senate Republicans who voted to block the #ERA once again. Kudos to Sens Murkowski and Collins for voting on the right side of history. After 100 years, Am women are still waiting for equal rights before the law. It is a national disgrace.
USWC lauds Washington DC, yet another US city passing laws to support the UN CEDAW treaty to eliminate discrimination against women. See passblue.com/2023/04/12/was…
Our best wishes for a Happy Women's month to all the women of the world.
Also, many thanks go to @FLOTUS Jill Biden who at the Women of Courage Award ceremony at the White House reminded everyone that we need more men to listen and act on behalf of women.
The Caucus applauds the announcement last week of the new Congressional Dads Caucus to address the long neglected issues of childcare and family leave in the US as well as expanding the Child Tax Credit that could help cut child poverty in half.
We condemn the Afghan government's heartless suspension of female university education. Countries lose millions in productivity when young women cannot complete their education. Female education is the key to prosperity for all. #LetHerLearnworldbank.org/en/news/press-…
