Thread on voting in America: If I was in Salt Lake City and needed to catch a train to Orlando, FL, there is a very low chance that I could find a train that would take me directly there. It is likely, however, that I find a train going to LA and another going to Kansas City. 1/

@utah_moderate @BananaBall_ They aren’t interacting with it though. They get all excited and overstimulated by this stuff and when they go to an actual game and the batter takes a timeout it’s foreign. Go to a minor league game if you want to get introduced to baseball in a fun way

@9cansofravi0li You don’t have to watch. But it’s doing big things for baseball itself. I love baseball, but the product is dying. Silly things like this bring in audiences that couldn’t care less about the sport and is inspiring kids to play the real thing. That’s not a detriment in anyway

@9cansofravi0li @BananaBall_ You’d never say this about the globetrotters lol they took a failing minor team, turned it into a multimillion dollar business, are gaining huge non-baseball audiences, and are igniting love for the sport with newer younger kids. What’s lame about that?

While they do track these things generally, they don’t board and inspect cruise ships like the VSP did. They would have to track the virus AFTER it spreads instead of containing

@TN_Tornado1 @factpostnews I don’t think the point of this post was to say that this specific case would have been caught by CDC. I think it’s saying that hey, cruise ship outbreaks are very common and dangerous, and we have far less capacity to address it and this should concern us

@factpostnews Let's assume that gutting the CDC program had anything do with the recent outbreak. My response: Good. Why were we paying a team of people to investigate cruise ships that aren't under our flag? That is the job of the country where the ship is registered.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.
