Make the games 40 minutes. 8 x 82 / 48 =13.667 That’s the equivalent number of games you would reduce the schedule by. Without breaking arena leases. Works for college. Works for international. Works for the WNBA. AND. If you looking at tv and streaming ratings, the less the actual playing time for a televised game, the bigger the ratings. Ie, the less time fans have to focus on a game, the more they enjoy watching it on tv

The reaction I've seen to NBA's tanking proposals hasn't been positive. Personally I think the proposal with the flattened lottery odds would be a substantial improvement from the current system.

For every "what if we draft the next LeBron and win a title" fantasy, there is a more probable fantasy of "what if the rebuild fails and I spend 10 years watching bad basketball?"

2016 Heat were 10-30 fighting for #1 pick. Didn't tank, finished season 41-41, missed playoffs. One of my favorite seasons.
2023 Heat could lose play-in and try for Wemby, but got 8 seed and lose Finals. Awesome season

@Pa0lo__ @utjazzfocus @NateDuncanNBA I don't remember all the details, but it was mainly a Gobert/roster issue for Mitchell, not Utah itself. They had 2 years to figure something out, and the market size clearly wasn't the hurdle because he signed an extension with Cleveland
But they just blew the whole thing up

@utjazzfocus @Pa0lo__ @NateDuncanNBA Tank or no tank, the chances of a championship are slim for any team, so my perspective is: I'd rather watch a 50 win perennial playoff team that loses in May, than a total waste of a year that ends in November, which most likely won't lead to a title or a superstar anyway.

They won’t tank and they’ve been a middling 40 win team most years. Not a single person had fun there ever except like 2.5 Derrick rose years

We've quickly gone from "we can't build a good team" to "we can't win a championship". More excuses for small markets.

@utjazzfocus @NateDuncanNBA A large majority of the games right now are uncompetitive because one or both teams is tanking. That matters more than ~everything else, and a hell of a lot more than SLC or DC fans being less engaged.
