I created a little app recently to address a painful challenge with a leading software product, and it got me thinking about how easy it is to overlook, ignore or dismiss real world challenges in the product design process,

@lexfridman @sama Considering debated positives/risks of open source, + OpenAI being ahead (potentially why things are a little turbulent as others attempt to catch up), how to enable that positive potential in other ways? APIs, custom chats, chips, and…? Commercial and “for good” partnerships?

@elonmusk Lived that experience - the legal path - very hard. Getting a visa, renewing visa - huge time sink and costly. Eventually had a renewal declined - which can be life changing.

Because I am raising concerns about the flood of unvetted illegal immigrants overwhelming American cities, the press will often characterize me as “anti-immigrant”. As an immigrant myself, nothing could be further from the truth. I am very much in favor of increased and expedited legal immigration for anyone who is talented, hard-working and honest. It is bizarrely difficult and agonizingly slow to immigrate to the USA legally, but trivial and fast to enter illegally! This obviously makes no sense.

A few questions: How can one defend oneself against an accusation of plagiarizing Wikipedia for a dissertation written 15 years ago in 2009? Isn’t the whole point of Wikipedia that it is a dynamic source of info that changes minute by minute based on edits and contributions from around the globe? Has anyone (other than my wife) ever been accused of plagiarism based on using Wikipedia for a definition of a word? Is Wikipedia copyrighted? If so which version? The most recent one? The previous version? Is it plagiarism when you use an online dictionary for a definition of a word or term? How can one defend oneself when one learns about a 12-page plagiarism accusation at 540pm on Friday night when one celebrates Shabbat and you are told the article would be published shortly, in this case at 7:10pm?

@lexfridman “drama over truth” feels more like outcome rather than malevolent act. I suspect what drives this changes case by case: Seeking power, influence, to damage, or simply acting “on brand”? Strategy designed for growth, or strategy born out of survival?

Journalism seems to increasingly optimize for drama over truth. It uses everything from misrepresentation of cherry-picked quotes/events/data to downright fabricated info and lies, which bait the "other side" to respond and thus generate even more drama, creating a vicious cycle. Plus, Wikipedia cites it, giving the drama more legitimacy and permanence. This is a broken system. It adds to cynicism, distrust, and division in the world. I've been increasingly the target of it 😔 But I maintain hope that truth & compassion wins out in the end.

The real question is who I REALLY work for, and thus who controls everything I think and say: 1. CIA/FBI 2. FSB/SVR/GRU 3. Mossad 4. China's Ministry of State Security 5. Communists & the far-left 6. Nazis, fascists & the far-right 7. Secret globalist cabal 8. WHO, CDC & big pharma 9. QAnon 10. Aliens 11. OpenAI board 12. Other secret organization So many options 🤣 Look into it. It's also possible that I'm controlled by noone, am curious about everything, think independently, try to practice empathy & compassion, and am not affected by proximity to money, power, or fame. Just kidding it's probably aliens 🤣 Love you all ❤

@lexfridman After you saying playing was a private thing, it’s great to see you sharing. I firmly believe the world (and the platforms we’ve built) would be a far more positive place if we focussed more on sharing and rewarding creativity.

Music has been an escape for me through some low points in my life. This is me playing Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd a while ago. I'm back to playing guitar and piano more lately, and I'd love to share it on occasion. Next up is Hendrix. Thanks for listening. I love you all ❤

8/ On less “young driven founders” there’s also other ways to make money, grow status, live a good life, and less funding for “of now” [this] for [that] apps. Rethinking how we better support for mid to longer term plays would be super healthy for SV and other startup hubs.

7/ It’s good to hear that OpenAI started as a 15 year project. I think the way to avoid downsides should include designing for better upsides. Perhaps why we see less young founders is fewer easy (this for that) pickings. And we know we need to work harder to create good.

1/ Listening to @sama talk with @joerogan and the discussion moves from the ease of envisioning the positive of AI and the challenge of envisioning how to navigate the challenges, to how we couldn’t foresee the impact and change of technologies such as mobile and social media…
