@simonmaechling Scientists need to get better at communicating. This doesn’t just mean better explanations, it means engaging in more opportunities for explanations as well.
You’re a good example of this; speaking out, when you can, goes a long way even when it rarely feels like it.

@martinmbauer There's also something deeply depressing in that the message astronauts always return with is ignored by those who need to hear it most.

Humans going to the Moon isn’t just another spacetrip, and it isn't made trivial by todays technology just because a group of absolute madmen managed to pull it off with calculators in the 1960s and 70s
It is the farthest distance humans have ever traveled. Because the Moon looks large in the sky, many people underestimate how far away it really is. The Moon is about 1000 times further from Earth than the International Space Station. Artemis II will take 10 days, with astronauts traveling at thousands of miles per hour through deep space only to slam back into Earth’s atmosphere going 25000 mph relying on a heat shield to survive.
There’s something both inspiring and reassuring about the fact that humans are willing to take that kind of risk and to come back home to tell us what they experienced

@ThePhysicsMemes Yo, calm the fuck down. They're both equally smart, they aren't engineers.

@StuffWorthSee They did, and it's like the only thing students ever remember. You realize this when they always talk shit about it, and ask "when will we ever use this?"

I made this comparison in Deep Thinking in 2017, relating my surprise after speaking to the Otis Elevator Company! Automatic elevator tech existed for decades before they became accepted due to fear (and a union). The same is happening with cars now—and baseball umpires!

Elon Musk@elonmusk
Elevators used to be manually operated and were especially risky if the operator was tired or inebriated. Now, you just get in, press a button and a modern elevator, if inspected regularly, is extremely safe.

@PhysInHistory Spin is a built-in property that acts like a tiny arrow, but when you measure it along any direction you choose, it always snaps to either point along that direction, or exactly opposite; it never lands at an angle.
No need to explain “rotation without rotation.”

Investing in technology is investing in the present, investing in science is investing in the future

@BL1138 @CattardSlim Not only does it logically follow, it was funny. Comedy isn’t dead, remember?

@v_rm_n @CattardSlim This is the stupidest thing I have heard all month.

@EricLDaugh He had to draw the map, how else could he have it handed off to Russia?

🚨 BREAKING: Sec. RFK Jr. reveals just how intelligent President Trump really is behind the scenes x.com/i/status/20380…
"One time, he grabbed a placemat, turned it over, took a Sharpie, and drew a PERFECT map of the Middle East. Then he marked the troop strength of every country along each border on that map!" 🔥🔥
"It challenged a lot of the assumptions I had been told about him!"
