@autismsupsoc Yes yes! That said, I wear safety glasses all day to keep air movement off my eyeballs. I've named wind The Angry Little Brother, quite pleasant when calm, spiteful and mean when aroused. No: windy cities eating outside cieling/oscillating fans convertibles w the top down

Many Autistic people are very sensitive to air flow … We need a constant perception of airflow or we feel confined & suffocating to one degree or another … it’s one of many reasons why an Autistic person might have a fan constantly running.

Okay, people of a certain age, give me your Gen X story. Here's mine: My mom was working but she didn't trust my sister or I with a door key, so every afternoon when we returned from school we had to break into our own house by crawling through the window. 1/2

@autisticinnovat I am autistic, but I have ADHD because that's grammatically correct. I wouldn't say I am Disorder (though it might be accurate), so I don't say I am ADHD. I don't correct others, though, because it does me no harm for others to describe themselves however they prefer.

For AuDHD: Which terms do you prefer to use? Do you use ‘have’ or ‘I am’ to describe your autism and ADHD? Personally, I’m the first one and use ‘I am’ to describe both. Just curious to see how common each one is. 🙂

@autismsupsoc For a long time I kept thinking, "You can't [eat] your cake and eat it too?" i.e. have = eat :)

Many Autistic people have trouble with the idiom: “You can’t have your cake and eat it too” It is really saying: “You can’t both save a whole cake for future consumption & also eat that same cake in it’s entirety now.” Or “You can’t have it both ways” #AutismAcceptance

@BryceLongstaff @TruthAutistic Me: You said... Them: I never said that. Me: *like playing a recording, recites what they said word for word, inflection for inflection...* Them: *silent contempt* or Them: *friendly smile* haHA! Ya got me! (and we move on)

@TruthAutistic Like a hundred times a day. I say it self deprecatingly, so my uncertainty does not point at the listener. It's a ruse tho. I know I've said it clearly - in general - and need to know if they inferred what I intended or whether they decided I wrote something between the lines.

@spikyskills @ADDeeCee YES :) like I know it's not a u but my intrusive rumination factory won't stop interjecting, "Hey, remember when..." even tho it knows quite well that yes, yes I do, as I did the first 10,000 times.

@spikyskills @ADDeeCee For me: Spelling rules have no power over what my brain decides a spelling is. Ex. What began only as potty humor to an elementary schooler, has become a life long battle to not write turd in the middle of yesterday - every time. Every word is the same ridiculous nonsense.

@spikyskills Maybe because many of the rules are exceptions to others? And then there are exceptions to exceptions. Anecdotally I heard that ND that learn the Latin roots have a much easier time spelling after they do.

Having autistic special interests is like developing well-worn, lengthy tomes of information on very specific subjects. Being ADHD on top of that is not knowing where I've put that wealth of information, and finding it all in a pile in my pantry for some reason

@laurenancona Similar. I'm so often the only one in a store with a mask on *and* it's a full face P100 gas mask, so I'm pretty conspicuous. I just smile bc-- I feel great! (also it helps with other sensory issues like scents and wind on my face)
