VIDEO | On Calcutta High Court reserving order on challenge to Bengal government's cattle slaughter restrictions ahead of Eid, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra (@MahuaMoitra) says, "We filed a petition today through our party MLA Akhruzzaman. We had a very detailed hearing which went on for over three hours, and all the points were covered. The 1950 Act is an animal slaughter control law aimed primarily at agricultural animals, which was the situation in 1950, to ensure that animal husbandry and milk production were not affected. Moreover, it was limited to municipal areas only. There is no provision for this Act in panchayat areas... In Islam, sacrifice is associated with the sacrifice of Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice even his own child. The animal has to be healthy. If you take a 14 year old animal that is diseased, maimed, or otherwise unfit, it is not even suitable for sacrifice. Even the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act exempts religious sacrifice, and the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act also provides an exemption under Section 12. Time for Millennials to educate clueless Gen Z.
As a millennial, back in 2013, when I decided which party I wanted to vote for, I was so convinced that I even wanted to work for them on the ground level. Those were the days when corruption scams under the UPA government had frustrated people across the country and citizens were desperately looking for an alternative.
That’s when the Aam Aadmi Party emerged, projecting itself as a movement of common people who would eliminate corruption once they came to power. Like thousands of others, I too got carried away believing they genuinely stood for clean politics and change.
But once they came to power, we all saw what followed. Thankfully, within couple of weeks, I sensed something was off about Arvind Kejriwal and stepped away from supporting them.
The only party I then believed could truly transform India was the BJP.
Today, this so-called “Cockroach Janta Party” feels like nothing more than another version of AAP — selling hype, social media optics, and emotional manipulation to the youth.
A request to millennials: educate the clueless Gen Z crowd falling into these traps.
Instagram views, viral reels, and likes should never decide the future of a nation.
At the same time, governments also cannot ignore this trend. If large sections of youth are getting attracted to such parties, it reflects frustration and the need for change in certain areas too.
Ignoring public sentiment — especially online sentiment — would be a mistake, just like what happened in states where warnings and feedback on social media were dismissed for years.
