The summer is over for me. Despite not achieving everything I’d hoped, I had more fun than any year I’ve had in the past. This is my first summer playing a full schedule with a ton of $10k+ buyins in non-hold’em events. I knew I’d be losing in them (I got absolutely torched), but I wanted to compete with and learn from the best so I can see what I need to work on, come back stronger in the future, and hopefully have more success. Adding in mixed events, especially having no expectations, really helped break up the monotony for me of just playing NL. I also appreciated the banter, lack of tanking, and better dealers. Here’s a breakdown of my results: NLH Events Entries: 21 Cashes: 7 Total Buyins: $111,800 Avg Buyin: $5,324 Cashed For: $107,463 Total Loss: -$4,337 Non-NLH Events Entries: 25 Cashes: 3 Total Buyins: $190,500 Avg Buyin: $7,620 Cashed For: $11,032 Total Loss: -179,468 (like I said, I got absolutely torched) Summer Highlights: - Double-digit amount cashes for the first time - Cashed in the largest buyin NLH event I played ($25k) - Cashed in 9-game mix putting everything I’ve been learning to the test - Played $50k Poker Players Championship - Cashed and ran semi-deep in the Main Event for the first time accomplishing something that’s literally on my bucket list - even getting to play on the Main Stage Summer Lowlights: - Punting to Allen Kessler in $10k PLO8 playing one of the absolute worst hands I’ve ever played not far from the money, of course with PokerNews there to capture it all and post it - Not cashing any of the 11 $10k+ buyins that I played in the non-NLH events o I did soft-bubble 3 of them - Not running particularly deep in any event and making no field bonuses for fantasy - Closed it out having my pretty much my worst day losing $25k in the HORSE, $1,500 in the Closer, and $10,000 in the $5k 8-hand NLH after running up 7x starting stack With all that being out there, I’m somewhat embarrassed that it didn’t go better. I’ve never had a particularly great summer. I hope that changes at some point. I’m fortunate and very grateful to have different revenue sources from YouTube and my role with @WPT @clubWPTgold that I don’t need to solely rely on income from playing anymore. Still, I’m extremely competitive. I’ve dedicated my life to the game I love and I want to win. This summer I didn’t have any expectations and I was mentally prepared to take two steps back in order to progress as a player in the long-term. Next summer the bar will be higher. I'm already looking forward to it. Real MVP: My wife, Amber, who takes care of our 16 month old while I go out for 12 hrs a day on the strip to play a game. I see how much effort she puts into taking care of our son, our girls, and everything else at home so I don’t have as many worries outside of playing. As much as I appreciate everything she does, she’ll never get enough credit. Any success I have is a huge team effort. This also makes downswings a little tougher on me mentally because I see the sacrifices she’s making for all of us; I don’t want that to go for nothing. Finally, I appreciate all of the people who came up and said they enjoy watching the YT channel. It’s great to hear from you and have those interactions. I somewhat feel like a fraud and failure if I’m not winning, but I hope you enjoy the videos that will be coming out soon covering these tournaments. @JustinMeyerKC Lost track of the amount of times I’ve been already and love it every time. Doing a lot of coast flights… sea, lax, bos, etc and the airline catering is lacking. They say it’s airport services, is there a plan to bring in a catering vendor?
