The idea that in essence we would need to pay to protest, against genocide for example, is absurd & would be another serious attack on our civil liberties. Those in Westminster are clearly worried about the power of our protests.

There is a huge resource cost to the police of the repeated pro-Palestine marches, which are due to start again next weekend. My forthcoming review will ask the govt to consider making organisers pay towards policing costs. Piece by @whazell here: telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/0…

Govt to relax rules to let councils sell assets to fund frontline services.
Is there anything left?
Once youth/community centres, playgrounds, swimming pools, libraries are sold they are lost forever.
All part of the Tory plan to privatise everything.

@JujuliaGrace I respect your work but I think your energy would be better invested in supporting workplace organising and strike action in the NHS as that is the only way things will change

Hundreds of school students boycotted an assembly with Labour MP @wesstreeting over his party’s position on Palestine.
Around 300 17 and 18-year-olds at Beal High School in Ilford, east London, either refused to attend or walked out of the assembly.

39% of children in Luton are growing up in poverty.
One immediate way to address this is extending free school meal provision.
Incredible work by members of @NEUnion and @NASUWT in Luton Town Centre today, taking a lead on this important local campaign.

VIGIL FOR ZODOQ - 30th SEPTEMBER
Our neighbour, Zodoq, was suffering a mental health crisis. Police broke into his flat, ignoring his pleas, and tasered him on his balcony, after which he fell and died.
Please join us on 30th September to remember him and demand justice.

In April 2023, Zodoq Obatolah, a Black man living in Rye Hill Estate, Peckham was tasered and killed by police. 5 months on and our neighbour has only been formally ID’d this week, and the officers who killed him have not been named or fired.

@MatthewBrownLab would you or any of your fellow councillors be willing to come to Luton ever to talk about your work? We are trying to urge local councillors to investigate community wealthier building
