𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗔'𝗦 𝗨𝗣𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗦 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗖𝗛 Solana spent the last year rebuilding its performance stack. Firedancer attacked validator execution. DoubleZero attacked the network path itself, moving validator traffic off the public internet and onto dedicated fiber. Both improve speed. Neither changes how the data itself is encoded. That's the layer Optimum is actually built for. Firedancer optimizes execution. DoubleZero optimizes transport. Optimum optimizes the amount of data that needs to travel in the first place. Different layer. Different problem. 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗔 𝗔𝗟𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗬 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 Solana's propagation layer already uses Reed-Solomon erasure coding through Turbine. It's one of the reasons the network handles packet loss better than most chains. But Reed-Solomon makes a fixed decision upfront: How much redundancy should exist? That answer doesn't change once the data starts moving. RLNC approaches the problem differently. It is rateless. New coded packets can be generated dynamically as conditions change. Any node receiving enough packets, in almost any combination, can reconstruct the original message. Even more importantly, nodes can recode packets they already hold into entirely new valid packets without fully decoding them first. That's something Reed-Solomon doesn't do naturally. The difference is simple: One system plans for packet loss. The other adapts to it. 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗦𝗡'𝗧 𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗖𝗛 Optimum isn't trying to replace Firedancer. It isn't trying to replace DoubleZero. And it isn't trying to replace Turbine. The thesis is much simpler: A faster validator client helps. A shorter physical route helps. A smarter encoding layer helps too. These upgrades don't compete with each other. They compound. Execution speed. Network transport. Data encoding. Three different layers of the same performance stack. 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦 The easiest infrastructure upgrades have already been identified. The harder question is what remains once those upgrades ship. Optimum's argument is that the encoding layer is still one of the few pieces of blockchain networking that hasn't been rebuilt from first principles. That's exactly the problem RLNC was originally designed to solve. And right now, very few teams are working on it. @get_optimum
