Zangezur Range, ARMENIA: When Timur’s army stormed into Syunik, attempts to sound the bell in Khot failed-giving rise to the saying “the ring is in vain” (zangy zur e in Armenian). Even the name of Azerbaijan’s expansionist project is appropriated from Armenian. @HikmetHajiyev

Oliver Kahn says the lack of continuity at the club is one of the reasons many players and coaches rejected a move to Bayern: "Many coaches have come and gone. As a result, the philosophies and ideas have changed time and time again, as has the squad. It always feels like a constant shake-up. That naturally creates a kind of unrest. Don't get me wrong, I'm also self-critical enough. During my time, there was this very issue of continuity in all areas, I would have liked to have done things better. But that's something many players and coaches say: 'I have to think about it very carefully'" [@SkySportDE]

Florian Wirtz's father/agent Hans Wirtz speaks about the failed move to Bayern • On the meetings with Uli Hoeneß and rumours about an agreement with Bayern: "I couldn't give a commitment because Florian ultimately makes the decision. It was still open at the time. The situation with Bayern was difficult because Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge made incredible efforts and also made a clear analysis of the sporting aspect. I have the greatest respect for Uli Hoeneß and his life's work. After Florian's ACL tear in 2022, he selflessly helped us quickly get an appointment for surgery in Innsbruck. We are still grateful to him for that. That's why the final phone call with Uli Hoeneß was very difficult for me." • How did Hoeneß react? Wirtz: "We had spoken several times beforehand, so he was as objective and fair as I'd ever known him. But of course, he couldn't hide his disappointment. After all, he had personally worked hard to bring about this transfer." • The "SZ" newspaper reported that a meeting with all the parties took place in Munich on Sunday, May 18. However, Vincent Kompany reportedly was unable to convince your son. Wirtz: "Vincent Kompany also had very good thoughts and ideas about how he wanted to integrate Florian into the FC Bayern team. In the end, it was a matter of details; the decision ultimately had to do with the different sporting situations and Florian's role. Financially, there weren't any major differences between the two clubs. Again, Bayern Munich really tried hard, but a decision had to be made. Florian saw the move abroad as a new personal and sporting challenge and therefore chose Liverpool FC . We all shared this view." [@derspiegel]

Gianluigi Donnarumma was very affected after Musiala's injury yesterday. After the game, the Italian goalkeeper texted Musiala to ask how he was doing and went to Bayern's dressing room to apologize. Donnarumma sought support from Joaquin Valdes, PSG's team psychologist [@RMCsport]

Western Azerbaijan: a fabrication devoid of Meaning The concept of the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" is utter nonsense, devoid of any real foundation. Furthermore, it cannot withstand scrutiny from historical, cultural, or legal perspectives. Even Heydar Aliyev, the father of the current president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, acknowledged in his speeches that the Azerbaijani identity has evolved significantly over the past century. In one of his speeches, he stated: "Our destiny was such. In Russia, we were called Tatars. Russian governors here referred to us as Tatars and recorded us as Tatars in official documents. Then, in 1918, the Turks came, and, thank God, they started calling us Turks. From 1918 to 1936, for 18 years, we were called Turks, and the language was called Turkic. Since 1936 and to this day, for 60 years now, we have been saying "Azerbaijani" and "Azerbaijani language". So, what do we do? What do we do if we do not answer these questions? We will not be able to adopt a law". This quote clearly demonstrates that Azerbaijani identity and its connection to any territory have been historically unstable and shaped by external factors. When considering the internationally recognized criteria for territorial belonging, it becomes evident that Azerbaijan lacks grounds for its claims to the territories it refers to as "Western Azerbaijan", as it fails to meet the following prerequisites: 1.Historical foundations 2.The identity/self-identification of the population 3.Deep religious, cultural, and spiritual ties of the Azerbaijanis to these territories throughout history 4. An undefined ethnogenesis

I didn't know about this AI tool created by Musk until today when I noticed its notes on tweets about Aliyev's attempts of stigmatizing Armenia to justify a new war & expansionism. I asked it which country is fascist - Azerbaijan or Armenia & got this: x.com/i/grok/share/b…

List of #Armenian words that became part of the literary languages of #Turkey or #Azerbaijan: 🇦🇲Խաչ - Xach Xaç - Cross 🇦🇿🇹🇷 (From Proto-Indo-European “Xotio” - tree, from Old Armenian խեչ - support, stand) 🇦🇲Թել - Tel Tel - Thread/Wire 🇦🇿🇹🇷 (From Indo-European “Teklo” - to weave, from Old Armenian թել - thread) 🇦🇲Բանջար - Banjar Pancar - Beetroot 🇦🇿🇹🇷 (The exact origin is unknown, but the word has existed in Armenian since the 5th century, from Old Armenian բանջարեղեն - greenery) 🇦🇲Խալի - Xali Xalça/Hali - Carpet 🇦🇿🇹🇷 (From the Arabic name of the Armenian city of Karin, from Old Armenian Կարին. Written in Arabic as قَالِيقَلَا “Qālīqalā” (“Kalīkala”), this city was renowned across the East as one of the centers of Armenian carpet weaving, hence carpets were named after it) 🇦🇲Մորուք - Moruq Moruk - Old man 🇹🇷 (From Proto-Indo-European “Smoḱru” - beard, from Armenian մորուք - beard) 🇦🇲Ժամկոչ - Jamkoch Zangoç - Bell-ringer 🇹🇷 (From Armenian ժամ - time, կոչ - call) P.S. There is not a single Turkic word in the Armenian literary language. All words Armenians use in their dialects that have Persian/Turkic origins typically have literary Armenian synonyms.

Lionel Messi is among several football players currently in Baku who laid flowers at the gravesite of Heydar Aliyev, the former authoritarian leader of Azerbaijan. Heydar Aliyev was a deeply oppressive figure whose legacy is defined by authoritarianism and human rights abuses. As Azerbaijan’s leader from 1993 to 2003, Aliyev consolidated power through a regime marked by corruption, repression, and the brutal suppression of political opposition. Before his presidency, Aliyev served as the Communist Party General Secretary of Soviet Azerbaijan, where he implemented policies aimed at “Azerifying” Artsakh. These measures included increasing Azerbaijani influence in the region and pressuring the local Armenian population to emigrate. These policies laid the foundation for the ethnic tensions that escalated into the Artsakh conflict. In 1982, Aliyev’s career reached its peak when he was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister of the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Aliyev returned to Azerbaijan and intensified policies that deepened ethnic and political divisions. He amplified anti-Armenian rhetoric during and after the Artsakh War, further fueling hostility that persists to this day. He also seized control of Nakhichevan and orchestrated the ousting of Azerbaijan’s then-president to secure his grip on power. Domestically, Aliyev’s rule was characterized by severe restrictions on press freedom, with journalists facing harassment, imprisonment, or exile for critical reporting. Protests were violently suppressed, leaving no space for political dissent. His authoritarian practices ensured his unchallenged rule at the expense of the Azerbaijani people’s basic freedoms. Aliyev’s policies and legacy continue to shape Azerbaijan’s political landscape, influencing its stance on human rights and its ongoing aggression toward Armenia and Artsakh. Given Lionel Messi’s longstanding reputation as a humanitarian, we expect more from him in moments like this. In March 2010, Messi was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Messi’s significant contributions to humanitarian causes make his participation in this highly political gesture profoundly disappointing.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Armenians have produced more Nobel Prize winners than any other former Soviet nation. Armenians: 2 (Patapoutian, Acemoglu) Russians: 1 (Novoselov) Estonians: 0.5 (Svante Pääbo, half-Swedish) Georgians: 0 Ukrainians: 0 Latvians: 0 Lithuanians: 0 Belorussians: 0 Kazakhs: 0 Tajiks: 0 Uzbeks: 0 Moldovans: 0 Turkmens: 0 Kyrgyz: 0 Azerbaijanis: 0 This is just an interesting detail. This has nothing to do with putting others down, just an interesting detail that speaks to the scientific potential of our people. The above list considers only ethnic background and excludes Nobel Prize winners in non-scientific fields, such as Literature and Peace.
