@goblin_formula This doesn't make sense. In this case, if I say I want to convince a merchant to give me a discount, and roll a 1, am I obligated to rp my PC just shitting themselves? Doesn't it make more sense for the RP to happen before the roll and the DM sets the DC based on the arguments?

This only happens because you and everyone else has been taught how to play D&D wrong. The correct order of operations is declaring what you want to do, rolling, and then role-playing the result of the roll. Your example proves why the other way around is a manifestly bad idea.

Dice in DND is asking the universe for an impartial decision to inject spontaneity into a scenario neither player nor DM can predict. The mental cost of a bad role after great RP feels like a punishment, and the table now has to react to a number rather than the narrative.

@Lexorcyst jason's versatility with random lethal items is what makes him interesting i think. they could do a lot with that in the game

@dvveet @Jeffheffer616 @miiboochie found footage? images of tall trees in the darkness? running through a forest with a flashlight? that's all extremely slender coded. marble hornets specifically had a lot of imagery similar to the cabin and forest before it got dark out

@Jeffheffer616 @miiboochie Even this, when I see glitches like that in a wood setting, i do not think of Slenderman, I think of F13 bc of the game. Maybe im just biased as a huge fan of the franchise but it never rang less for me
