@flieldy I mean, they weren’t really “posers” because they weren’t pretending to be mean and scary or anything. But they were interlopers / art school gentrifiers imposing themselves on a traditionally working class art form.

Time is funny because when I was first listening to hydra head bands in the 2000s, weirdo metal guys were among the only ones who would’ve been fans of the label. You had to seek this stuff out to hear it at all let alone complain about it.

The issue with Mixtape is that, in any other universe, it would have floated by as a personal little game that's tapping into a niche audience (artsy millennials who love Devo), but because we live in grifter-influencer hell, it has to be a culture war because IGN gave it a 10.

This is a funny thing about actually being accurate to real life that often butts heads with popular imagination. "Mixtape" as a term continued to be used when cds came around, but as time passes those grey areas fade away as those time periods are solidified into aesthetics

It's always fun to read Martin Wolf but the below para. is simply not true. The US and the UK were the dominant deficit countries (in absolute terms) long before the eurozone crisis. Also it's weird to call the US the great balancer when its deficit is the largest contributor to global imbalances.
