@Real1_balogun My first World Cup and I still remember every game that I saw. All the super eagles group games, this game you just talked about. The Senegal Vs Turkey game that saw Senegal get eliminated from the golden goal rule in ET. The Germany game they walloped Saudi's 9-1 or so😂

I watched the entire France vs Senegal game of the 2002 World Cup game again. It's good to see old events with fresh eyes. Helps perspective a lot. That was a 0-0 game by design. Both teams had physical players. France played Emmanuel Petit, Youri Djorkaeff and Patrick Vieira and there wasn't much verticality shown in that game. That wasn't because they were incapable of doing it, they didn't just find the space to do it. Senegal played Papa Bouba Diop, Salif Diao and Papa Malick Diop. That's a very physical, rangy, tall midfield that would have been trouble for any team in the world. They also had gas to burn. France’s starting attack was Thierry Henry, Sylvain Wiltord and David Trezeguet. Senegal’s was Khalilou Fadiga, El Hadj Diouf and Moussa Ndiaye. If it was France who scored that odd goal, they'd have won that game too because their defense of Marcel Desailly, Christian Leboeuf, Lilian Thuram and Bixente Lizarazu was solid. Desailly was brilliant in that game. He attempted to break Senegal’s press many times and he did successfully. That was where they missed Zidane. Zidane’s change of pace would have helped progress the ball better and his trickery and physicality would have been a handful for Senegal’s midfield. Another interesting point for me was Senegal’s left-back for that game, Omar Daf played with his right. It was easy for him to keep Wiltord out. Ferdinand Coly also handled Henry really well. The most skillful player in that game was Fadiga. His use of the ball, his running were so elegant. If you like old football clips like me, FIFA’s YouTube channel has many of them now.
