🕊️ We mourn the loss of Dr. Samantha Garza (1996–2025). She was a proud member of our Latinas in Medicine community. Diagnosed with a brain tumor in med school, Sam met every challenge with grace and earned her MD. She served others even in illness, and her legacy lives on.

Last night was a dream come true. 🥹 I officially graduated from residency and became an Obstetrician & Gynecologist 💐🧡 I grew up in Kansas raised by my mom and grandma and overcame poverty and periods of homelessness to become the first doctor in my family. God is so good 😭

Overdue update: I began having trouble drinking & swallowing over Mother’s Day weekend & received a hospice referral the following Monday. It’s all still a lot going on. I truly don’t know what’ll happen tomorrow, but I’m at peace.🤞🏼 I appreciate everyone, it’s still so scary 🫠

@velmataorminamd @RepGregMurphy Read the annual report of the institutions where you attended medical school and residency. Many many many donors, endowments, government grants came many decades before you. You are standing on the shoulders of giants.

#1 reason for MD shortage is Med schools admitting students who aren’t going to practice. Only 60% of med students today plan on practicing clinical medicine. Med Schools need to focus on admitting students who want take care of patients, not just get their MD.
