Good afternoon, Garland! Earlier today, we received a phone call from a resident who stated he was nearly the victim of a cable company SCAM. The scammer contacted him over the phone and claimed to provide utility services at a great price. It seemed too good to be true, and his instincts took over. He hung up with the scammer without giving him any money and called the utility provider the scammer claimed to be associated with, and they confirmed it was indeed a scam. This is a friendly reminder never to give money over the phone and to verify, verify, verify. Do your homework. If you receive an unsolicited call and an offer that is too good to be true, it probably is. Always contact the company directly from the number on your utility bill, and never call the number they give you. @garlandtxgov
