Jo Nagai was raising swallowtail butterflies at his home in Kobe, Japan, when he noticed something odd. The ones he had looked after as caterpillars seemed to recognize him. Wild butterflies fled. His didn't. He was in second grade. He wrote a four-page letter to Dr. Martha Weiss, an entomologist at Georgetown University who had studied whether moths could retain memories through metamorphosis. He asked if she could help him design a version of her experiment for butterflies. She said yes. Using a muscle therapy device, Jo trained caterpillars to associate the scent of lavender with a mild vibration. When the caterpillars became butterflies, 70 per cent of them still avoided the lavender. Their brains had been completely rebuilt during metamorphosis. The memory survived anyway. Then he bred them. The offspring, which had never been trained, also avoided lavender. So did their grandchildren. Without ever experiencing the vibration, two generations of butterflies inherited an aversion to a scent their grandmother had been taught to fear. Jo documented it all in a 33-page research paper and presented his findings at the International Congress of Entomology in Kobe in 2024. He was 10. A second grader wrote a letter to a Georgetown professor, and together they found evidence that butterflies can pass memories down through generations. -Wilderness Whisper

@coinesper New launchpad worth checking out @MachimaLabs piloted by @0xvsr is relaunching on @RobinhoodApp they have two co-operating products, a launchpad and a web2-facing product @VentiDotAi stacked on top. This makes it possible to have walletless onchain launches using only an email.

Bit strange that $NOXA were printing generational wealth as Robinhood’s leading launchpad. Then they turn off new token launches over the last week. Then the website goes down for technical issues and the dev goes missing for days. Bit of a fumble. It’ll be interesting to see how other pads respond. Where there’s opportunity others will jump on it. Hope the Noxa team gets back up and running.

This unlocks groups of projects launching a collaborative token, fees split between them automatically. A creator launching with their audience, one link shared to thousands. Anyone raising for anything, together. /6

And we're shipping something new: Cosign. Launch a token with other people. Pick your cosigners, set how the fee share splits between you, and Venti handles the rest in the same chat flow. /5

Then the fun part - a retro terminal launch sequence while Venti puts your token in front of sponsors. A sponsor funds the first liquidity, the token goes onchain, and trading opens on Elixir. You earn a share of trading fees for the lifetime of the token. /4

And you watch it happen. As you chat, your token assembles itself on screen, dot by dot. Name it and it takes shape. Give it a ticker and it gets stamped. Drop a logo and it gets a face. By the time you type "launch", it's already alive. /3

The crypto space has some of the best talent and most visionary technical thinkers in all of emerging tech. Memecoins are a natural part of the market: low bar for anyone to get involved with, high potential for grabbing mindshare. We need to integrate it more with innovation.

The first and most important step is always believe in yourself. If you believe in what you're doing, keep knocking down walls. Lastly, be comfortable with some people not getting it immediately. If everyone got it, you wouldn't be the first one to try it.

Organizational Update: We've added a new page at machima.ai/progress This is linked into our internal task and activity tracking systems and will be the place to quickly understand the work that is being done. We will be adding to and updating task lists daily.

We've spent months building our tech stack. The hardest thing sometimes for devs is taking off the dev hat and putting on other hats, especially when coding is a passion, not a job. Now the dev hat comes off, autisto-marketing hat goes on for a while.

We are taking on perhaps the most historically challenging goal in crypto: bringing in normies. We are taking a different approach though. Instead of cold calling them and trying to convince them, we present normie businesses with a solution to their largest problem: funding.
