Capt. Ariana G. Savino, a 31-year-old U.S. Air Force pilot from Covington, Washington, was among six crew members who lost their lives when a KC-135 Stratotanker crashed over western Iraq on March 12 during Operation Epic Fury. Savino had an inspiring military career. She graduated from Central Washington University through the Air Force ROTC program in 2017 and first trained as a combat systems officer before earning her pilot wings in 2025. During her service, she deployed three times to the Middle East and completed 348 combat flight hours. She was awarded the Air Medal and the Air and Space Commendation Medal for her dedication and service. She served as chief of current operations for the 99th Air Refueling Squadron, overseeing a $21 million flying-hour program. Five other crew members also died in the crash: Maj. John Klinner, Tech. Sgt. Ashley Pruitt, Capt. Seth Koval, Capt. Curtis Angst, and Tech. Sgt. Tyler Simmons. Their loss was deeply felt by their squadron and community. "Join our journey through time.
