NEW: American climber Alex Honnold says he was paid an “embarrassing amount” of money to climb up the Taipei 101 building on Netflix but says he would have done it for free. Honnold, 40, climbed up the 1,667 foot tall tower in 1:31:35. According to the NYT, Honnold was paid somewhere around $500,000. Here is his exchange with the New York Times: NYT: Is this your biggest payday? Honnold: Maybe… I would do it for free… NYT: How much are you getting paid? Honnold: I’m not gonna say. It’s an embarrassing amount… if you put it in the context of mainstream sports, it’s an embarrassingly small amount. NYT: Ten? Honnold: Million? NYT: Yeah. Honnold: No!
