The first time I actually read a company’s annual report, I felt like a fraud. I’d been “investing” for 2 years, buying stocks based on tips and trends. Never once read the financials of what I owned. When I finally opened one, I realized: The company I was most bullish on had declining revenue for 3 straight years. I was holding a sinking ship and cheering. Sold it. Took a small loss. But the education was priceless. If you own a stock and haven’t read its latest annual report, you’re not investing. You’re gambling with better PR.
