I've found myself getting less cynical over media as I've aged. Understanding how difficult it is to make anything of quality just makes grateful that something I liked existed at all. Good, bad, or flawed, what a blessing it is to experience other folks work before its all gone

@PorscheofSports Honestly yes, my thought was they needed to rush all of the in-betweens in order to cover all of his catalogue leading up to Bad. And maybe that was an intentional choice but it didn’t work for me

@vicmitro That's interesting, my main issue personally was I felt that they tried to cover too much of his adulthood and jumped through too many time periods so I definitely understand what your complaint is about. Movie probably would've worked better if they ended at Off The Wall debut

Yeah, them critics was being some haters. The MJ movie was terrific

@PorscheofSports Yeah I figure it’s probably a result of how the family wanted it portrayed but it resulted in an awkward film. And you just described my issue, they went all in on the performances because it would sell, but I do not feel they left enough room for a cohesive movie outside of that

@vicmitro Well I mean it's a MJ biopic brother, people would be extremely dissatisfied if they didn't make the performances the main selling point. As far as the in-house dynamic goes this was corroborated by the entire Jackson family, Joe was in fact a constant villain in their lives

@PorscheofSports Yeah agree to disagree. The whole script felt extremely one-note to me: Scenes of Joseph being a mustache-twirling villain and then Michael being a kind soul over and over again, then move on to MJ’s iconic songs/performances, which was the only thing they really wanted to show.

@vicmitro Yeah see I disagree, I feel like they captured the weight of his superstardom and also the pressures he was dealing with at home of his overbearing father. They also captured how isolated he felt from everyone else too because of his success. I gave it a strong 8.5

@PorscheofSports I thought it was awful, felt like they were just trying to sell me on the artist/music, which I don’t need sold to me because I’m already a fan, and they didn’t even try to make an actual narrative work. Jafar was awesome hitting those dance moves though so that part was fun.
