Scrutiny matters - but never at the cost of harm. Parliament must be a safe and supportive place for victims to give evidence. A recent committee evidence session fell far short of that - so I’ve now asked to meet with the Deputy Speaker. Full story⤵️ theguardian.com/society/2026/a…

Thank you to brave survivors David, Stuart and Patrick who joined me at the @CPSUK Leaders Conference + to @ThisIsSurvivors for amplifying these voices. We discussed what victims need from the justice system: clear explanations, timely communication + trauma-informed treatment.

As the Victims and Courts Bill nears Royal Assent, this marks a major step forward for victims’ rights. Huge credit to the families of Sabina Nessa, Zara Aleena and Jan Mustafa for driving this change, ensuring offenders are compelled to attend sentencing or face consequences.

As Stalking Awareness Week draws to a close, I have written an article following my speech at @live_life_safe's conference on #FatalFixation. We need early identification, consistent responses, and intervention before harm escalates. Read the article:🔗victimscommissioner.org.uk/news/from-risk…

This was a life sentence for an attack driven by religious hatred and extreme sexual violence. I pay tribute to the victim’s courage, strength and resilience in coming forward in the face of profound trauma. Read my full statement: 🔗linkedin.com/feed/update/ur…
Tell MAMA UK@TellMamaUK

A sexual predator, racist and abuser of women, John Ashby was sentenced by Judge Justice Pepperall to a full life sentence with a minimum of 21 years in jail. Speaking on this, the Director of Tell MAMA, Iman Atta OBE said: "This British Sikh woman has demonstrated enormous resilience, bravery and courage in holding Josh Ashby to account for his sexual hate crimes. He was driven by racism, anti-Muslim and gender hate and he randomly followed a South Asian female to her home and subjected her to trauma that is unfathomable. The victim deserves all the respect, admiration, care and honour that we can give her since she is a true inspiration to many women in holding this monster to account." "We stand with our Sikh communities during this difficult trial. We see your fear and recognise that anti-Sikh sentiment is a unique danger that must be met with dedicated resources and stronger safeguards." "It is also clear that gender violence continues to be a significant factor and cancer in our society. We also understand the strong links between racism, religious hate crimes and the impacts on female members of diverse communities. This case demonstrates that link."

When victims are made to wait years for justice, many withdraw - and without victims, the justice system cannot function That’s why reforming our courts matters for all of us. Good to speak to @theJeremyVine earlier about the need for pragmatic reforms to reduce court delays ⤵️

This is welcome progress - a crucial Victims Right to Review (VRR) pilot is to expand to Wales. Inspired by @jadeblueLDN’s fight, this ensures rape survivors aren't simply left with an apology when the CPS gets it wrong. This must now be strengthened and delivered nationally
Jade Blue@jadeblueLDN

This is progress - and shows what happens when lived experience is heard. Review before a case is closed can change everything. Now make it permanent - and strengthen it in law, so decisions can be challenged before cases are irreversibly closed. lbc.co.uk/article/victim…

Honoured to join @StmarysSARC to mark 40 years of survivor‑centred care. Progress has been made, but the mission remains urgent. My commitment is to keep pushing for a system where every survivor is supported, every perpetrator pursued, and women and girls freed from violence.

As National Stalking Awareness Week begins, this report is a reminder that stalking is not “low-level” - it can escalate to the most serious harm. Pleased to be speaking at @live_life_safe's conf. tomorrow: we need better recognition, earlier intervention + stronger protections.

Good to visit SARSAS @RapeCrisisEandW in Bristol today and hear about their vital support for survivors. Despite long waits for justice, funding pressures and record court backlogs, these teams deliver a lifeline. But court delays are still driving too many away from justice.
