We remember the three school children and teacher who were murdered during a shooting attack at the Ozar HaTorah Jewish School, Toulouse, in 2012. The attack formed part of an al-Qaeda-inspired shooting spree in Toulouse and Montauban earlier that month on 11 and 15 March 2012. Victims included a father (who also taught at the school) with his two sons and the daughter of the school's headteacher. It’s a stark reminder of why security measures are vital at Jewish schools. CST has a dedicated team that facilitates commercial guarding at communal schools, funded by the Government. We also work closely with schools, year-round, offering free security advice and assisting with funding for enhanced physical security measures.

The charging of two individuals under the National Security Act indicates the seriousness of the threat faced by the Jewish community and the reason why security across the community remains so high. We thank police and CPS for their work on this case. Read more - news.met.police.uk/news/two-men-c…

We remember the 51 people who lost their lives during consecutive terrorist attacks on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019. The far-right terrorist entered two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, armed with several firearms and brutally took the lives of 51 worshippers. He promoted his pre-attack manifesto online and proceeded to broadcast his attack on Facebook Live using a head-mounted camera. He is currently serving a sentence of life imprisonment without parole. This tragic event led to CST establishing its SAFE initiative, ‘Safety Advice For Everyone’. SAFE shares CST’s security knowledge with groups outside the Jewish community that are vulnerable to violence, extremism or hate crime. Everyone has the right to lead their lives in safety and security, so they can best protect themselves against threats. CST strongly welcomes the actions taken by the police and the Home Secretary in banning the annual Al-Quds Day march in London, which comes after Iranian arrests for allegedly targeting Jews. It shows the unprecedented volatility of the current situation and how extreme such marches have always been, up to and beyond what the law has allowed at any given time. We note that static Quds Day events may yet go ahead, as do many other pro-Iranian regime actions.

We welcome many of today's announcements, which root Jews within British society and rightly treat antisemitism as a matter of national importance. Importantly, the Islamist threat has been recognised, not only to Jews, but also as the biggest threat to national cohesion. While remaining vigilant against other threats, such as the Far Right, the CST will keep working closely with the government, the police and others to best implement the actions of the report: for the benefit of Jews and all society. We welcome the government’s decision to commission an independent review into antisemitism in schools, led by Sir David Bell. Jewish children and teachers must be able to learn and work free from hatred and intimidation, and it is right that there is a clear, independent examination of how antisemitism is identified, addressed and prevented across the education system. We hope this review will lead to practical support for schools and ensure antisemitism is consistently and robustly challenged wherever it occurs.

Today, we met with Dame Karen Bradley MP, Chair of @CommonsHomeAffs, alongside @CST_UK and @antisempolicy. We thanked the committee for their support, particularly in holding the leadership of West Midlands Police to account following the decision to ban Israeli fans from Birmingham. Daubing 'globalise the intifada', 'Free Palestine' and 'Zionist war criminal' on the statue of Winston Churchill, one of Britain's greatest heroes, is a disgrace, and it is welcome that someone has been arrested. It is a reminder that the hatreds directed at Israel and Jews never stop there: this extremism threatens Britain as a whole.
