@LesserFeat That'd be greatly appreciated, thank you! Currently working on things where the video's ideas might come into good use.

So thrilled that @tomhemingway11 and my video essay 'Autofictional Authenticity: Bo Burnham's INSIDE' is included twice in this poll! Grateful to @mikloskiss_rug and @thecinemadoctor for selecting us. Now to watch dozens more videos based on these lists...!

Vielen Dank!

@LesserFeat Congratulations on finishing part two of this series! Looking forward to watching it.

Finally finished this video essay! It's an adaptation of a work-in-progress article 'YouTube, Autofiction & Online Self-Performance'. This clip (feat. @FoldableHuman & @thelindsayellis) sets up one key theme, explored later via the work of @contrapoints. Full video below.

@LesserFeat Not familiar with any of the two songs (sorry, I know the people though), but maybe that's good (?) because to me it sounds very natural – almost as intended (as do "Rage against Vanessa Carlton" or "AC/VC", so much so that the original tracks are almost 'lacking' to me...😅)

I made this, for some reason: Charli XCX's 360 from brat, but with Nirvana's scentless apprentice drum sample. Enjoy, I guess? Full remix on my YouTube channel if you're so inclined: youtube.com/watch?v=d8FBXr…

My next paper is out in NECSUS: European Journal of Media Studies bit.ly/p-essayism
A new theory of the practice of producing video essays;
I argue that all video essayists (e.g. @dhruv_rathee @Hbomberguy @filmstudiesff @Sideways440) are practitioners of Polymedial Essayism

@Matt_Denny Oh, and I also stumbled over this: academia.edu/Documents/in/d…
("Media Evolution, 'Double-edged Sword' Technology and Active Spectatorship: Investigating 'Desktop Film' from media ecology perspective is another good one.)
English

@Matt_Denny I assume you're looking for things in English? Otherwise, I'd have a good one in German...
There are two analyses of specific Desktop Films: "Screening Screens: Cinematic Spectatorship in the Desktop Film Noah" by Lydia Tuan (Cinema & Cie 2020)
English

@Matt_Denny I also reccomend these: degruyter.com/document/doi/1…
and
necsus-ejms.org/desktop-docume…
English

@Matt_Denny Yes, good idea, since they do share basically the same visual aesthetic, though for different means and effects. The one I go to there is Bešlagić, Luka: "Computer Interface as Film. Post-Media Aesthetics of Desktop Documentary:" (AM Journal of Art and Media Studies 2019)
English

@Matt_Denny I'd reccomend looking at the introduction of "Screen Images. In-Game Photography, Screenshot, Screencast" that references the German article a bit in English.
English

@Matt_Denny The other one is "Between Visibility and Media
Performativity. The Role of Interface and Gesturality in Desktop Cinema" by Elio Ugenti (Cinema & Cie 2021, vol. 21 no. 36/37)
English

Just after I've finished Dan Olsen's ("Folding Idea") newest video that, in parts, reminded me quite a lot of Bo Burnahms "Inside", I get reccomended this analysis on with an accompanying statement about what the YouTube video essay can be.

🚨 Excited that my & @tomhemingway11's video essay is in the latest @inTransitionCMS issue! It's about @boburnham, Netflix, YouTube, & autofiction. A YouTube video itself, in our statement we advocate for YT video essay style in academic audiovisual work.🚨intransition.openlibhums.org/article/id/164…
English

@LesserFeat Congrats on the successful publication! I hope that this serves as first step to continously blur the distinction of 'YouTube video essay' and 'Vimeo essay' with its accompanying vernaculars!👍
