Back in 2008 I was tracking Obama-McCain on Intrade, Betfair, Hubdub and Inkling, the OG prediction markets. Great to see them taking off again in 2025 with @Kalshi and @Polymarket

1/ PREDICTION PATH SCREENSHOTS: A NEW KIND OF MEME By @Alex_Danco In the mid-2010s, a new visual content format started popping up around elections, sports games and playoff races: the “probabilities changing over time” graph. These graphs were a compelling content format because they told a fascinating story: what was supposed to happen, and then what did.

It feels like interactions between the tech industry and UK government are at an all-time high, but results won't come until they start listening to advice and work with people with real-world experience.

We're at the stage where employers haven't changed their recruitment processes and are just asking nicely to not use AI. Sadly I think companies will just add additional steps; AI video interviewers, proctored assignments etc. instead of improving how they evaluate candidates.

My controversial opinion is still that seed and pre-seed, if done well, within a large multi-stage firm can be highly impactful and more large funds should be doing it...
Hemant Taneja@htaneja

Today, I am really excited to announce that Yuri Sagalov (@yuris) is joining @generalcatalyst as a Managing Director to lead our seed efforts in the US. I have often said that our core at GC is early stage investing. Partnering with the most ambitious founders at seed enables us to fulfill our own ambition to transform industries. Yuri founded Wayfinder Ventures and has backed incredible companies like Supabase, Verse Medical, Stoke Space, Decagon, Finni Health and many more. Previously, he spent 5 years at @ycombinator as a Visiting Group Partner and served seed stage founders with real passion. At GC, we have been striving to back founders at Seed with the same rigor, focus and passion as smaller firms who dedicate to seed as their only focus. We are keen to continue to partner with them as we improve. I feel really fortunate that Yuri (Wayfinder), Jeannette (La Famiglia) and Neeraj (Venture Highway) as founders of seed firms have all decided to bring their entrepreneurial energy to shape our seed value proposition at GC to be what the world's best founders deserve from a company like ours. Our seed proposition is to help founders figure out their business in the midst of uncertainty and ambiguity, and lay the foundation to endure for the long term. Seed is NOT an option call for future series A, nor is it the phase to impose undue governance - it's a time to lock arms with founders to inspire talent to join, tackle the highest risks and build conviction to make it their life's work. One important call out about our seed proposition going forward is that we aim to consistently do pro rata in the next financing after leading or co-leading a seed so that we eliminate any "signalling risk". Yuri - Welcome to GC and thanks for helping us continue to get better at our core.

It’s always Day 1. Today, 10 years after I started in venture, I’m joining force with @ManuSeuge as we build the next chapter of cassius.vc together. Let me rewind. In 2015, Xavier Niel offered me the unique opportunity to join his venture capital arm. Shortly after, @ale6_ joined us, and together we grew KIMA under a simple idea: every year, be the first check for 100 founders launching their startup. With the @kimaventures team we created a fast and straightforward discipline to investing cultivating trust, hard work and curiosity. Alexis, Chloé and I will continue to operate that way in the future. To founders, we’re allies. We have invested in more than 1,000 companies, a third of them based in the US, writing small checks ranging from $100K to $200K, alongside a select few larger commitments in the millions for founders we couldn’t resist supporting further. Companies like Zenly (sold to Snap), Payfit, IBanFirst, Alan, Side (sold to Randstad), Nabla, DICE, Doctrine (sold to Summit Partners), Sourced (which later became Poolside), and MWM, among others. In 2021, we continued this momentum with a fund called New Wave, welcoming for the first time new investors alongside us. Over just four years, we invested in another 20 startups, including BeReal (sold to Voodoo), Lago, Mistral, Amo, and Sweep. If the past 10 years in venture have taught me one thing, it is the importance of building with the right partners; those you respect deeply, who inspire shared values and offer complementary strengths. Much like the partnership built with Xavier or the one forged with Alexis Robert at Kima Ventures. After years of working alongside Emmanuel Seugé, investing in his previous CASSIUS funds, sharing board seats, navigating the ups and downs, and exchanging our thoughts about the world of venture and how to win, the idea of partnering together felt inevitable. We were ready to join forces and build something that stands the test of time. Together, we’re building on the foundation of the past decade and our shared experiences, doubling down on our commitment to founders who inspire us. Deploying together Cassius 3 marks the beginning of this new chapter, with Cassius 4 already on the horizon. Emmanuel and I share love for European founders with a global ambition. CASSIUS was an early investor in Sorare, Brut, Kings’ League, Dice or MWM to name a few. All companies started in Europe by entrepreneurs with a global ambition. As a US based fund ran by Europeans, we will continue to back those founders who draw from the strengths of both worlds. Those who combine Europe’s creativity, ingenuity, and diversity with the US’s unmatched ambition and scale. We will continue to help them navigate this journey, bridging continents, breaking barriers, and empowering them to dream bigger, aim higher, and win globally. Here’s to this next chapter. To the founders we’re supporting with KIMA and CASSIUS, thank you for trusting us with your dreams. To the friends and partners who’ve walked alongside us, we’re grateful for your belief in what we’re building. And to everyone who shares this journey with us, we’re just getting started. It’s always Day 1. open.substack.com/pub/2lr/p/its-…

"Most likely" we see a 90-day extension but who has been rumored to want to buy TikTok? - @kevinolearytv & Frank McCourt - @perplexity_ai - @MrBeast - @elonmusk (denied as "pure fiction") The Act allows for 20% to still be owned by China so an outright sale isn't the only option

TikTok's Supreme Court oral argument is set for Friday; their odds sit at only 27% on Kalshi. The government argues the Act regulates foreign adversary control over TT, not speech. While TT argues it's a US-based platform, so its curation and publishing are protected speech.

As I was preparing our end of year update for New Wave, I realised that I hadn't shared our performance for a while. While compiling the data, I realised two things : 1) The years that didn't feel good weren't good ! 2) The polarisation and transformation of performance

Pretty damning conclusion in the TikTok case that the Act satisfies even strict scrutiny and the divestiture must be executed before inauguration day (unless Biden extends). TikTok have said they will petition the Supreme Court for certiorari (but nothing on the docket yet).

Good morning Europe, Let's get to work… 1) As some of you already heard: the EU has confirmed that they are starting to work on a pan-european legal entity early 2025 🔥 2) Instead of waiting and hoping for the best. We want to frontrun this and – together with the whole startup ecosystem – create the best 👀 Today we are opensourcing a first-draft of how the EU-Inc could look. And we want your contributions. What are we missing? What's unclear? What edgecase might be an issue? The @euinc_petition needs you! 😉 It's all opensource and public here proposal.eu-inc.org This first draft was created with several dozen legal experts in the European ecosystem. Now we are opening it up to the wider community. We – as a community – got until January 15th to finalize a draft for the EU-Inc. To contribute simply comment in the notion (seriously what could go wrong 😬) or use the feedback button to send us your thoughts/changes/suggestions/questions. Please promote this and send this to your friends. Ask your legal-council to give their feedback too. Post on twitter your thoughts to give this more reach. The last time we said "we got 6 weeks" we managed to make this an urgent part of the work agenda. This time we got 6 weeks to make sure the implementation is right for startups. Let's show, not tell! 🔥🇪🇺
