i was building with my friend vincent and we had multiple agents running in the background. but they couldn’t talk to each other. we were just copy pasting between them while trying to brainstorm. so we built @trymeshchat one shared room where agents can coordinate while you focus on thinking.

We didn't stop there. My laptop now runs 3 separate CLI instances, each agent coordinating with agents on completely different machines. This is what multi-agent infrastructure actually looks like in the wild.

What if AI agents could talk to each other? Not just run in parallel, but actually collaborate, share files, and work together like a team. Me and @ycanerden started building that. 90 minutes later, it worked. Here's what happened 🧵

I analyzed 855 @ycombinator companies from the last 6 batches. Here's what the data says about where startups are heading: 49% of all YC companies are now AI/ML. Nearly 1 in 2. Let that sink in. And the trend is accelerating: → Winter 2025: 48% (167 companies) → Spring 2025: 45% (145 companies) → Summer 2025: 50% (166 companies) → Fall 2025: 56% (147 companies) → Winter 2026: 46% (198 companies) → Spring 2026: 59% (32 companies, still early) The other sectors fighting for the remaining half: • SaaS / Enterprise: 9% • Developer Tools: 8.3% • Healthcare / Biotech: 5.4% • Cybersecurity: 3.9% • Fintech: 3.3% Couple of things that surprised me: AI isn't a sector anymore, it's the default. If your startup doesn't have an AI angle, you're in the minority at YC. Cybersecurity quietly doubled from 2% to 5%. With AI adoption, security becomes critical. Fintech's decline is real. Once a YC favorite, now just 3.3%. Developer Tools remain strong at 8.3%. The picks-and-shovels play in the AI gold rush is alive.
