animator from the US tv industry here - its not that animators gave up and accepted these terms, its that the economics realities of the business have forced everyones hands we used to have a lot of domestic production, but as the cost of living in the US rose and foreign companies offered much juicier rates for animation production, it was inevitable that work would get sent elsewhere interestingly enough, the math doesnt work for us to contract japanese studios because while the conditions are just as harsh as south korean studios - they are still mostly too expensive to produce cartoons for us. but the overall reality is that 2D animation is becoming an archaic artform because colleges are no longer pursuing this dimension and 3d is taking over. then when you zoom out further, you start to see that short form as a whole is losing its viability and the streamers have struggled to sell it viably this is the economic reality of where we're at and its becoming a global issue. but we have to move onward towards the light - media is evolving and we should be happy to be along for the ride, rather than look back in forlorn :)
