Stop obsessing about the size of the crowd. Focus on the cause and the momentum. Anna Hazare was arrested from Supreme Enclave Mayur Vihar, where I was then living. I had gone out for a tennis game in the morning and by the time I returned, he had been whisked away, without any stir in the colony or the street. There were very few people then on the ground, but what followed was history. The initial crowd may be big or small but what matters is the continued momentum.

IMO — it’s best to ignore the MAGA hoards. With some exceptions, mainstream Americans treat Indians well.

A lot of Indian Americans believe these are winning arguments. Racists hate you precisely because of this. High income, low crime, high tax contributions, stable families, higher education, lower dependence on benefits was supposed to be their domain.

Much lower inflation than Cong Govt 3. Cleaned up Banks — NPA down from 15% to 1% 4. Decent, 6-7% GDP growth every year 5. Passage and introduction of GST 6. Massive increases in rural electrification 7. Poor rural people for gas cylinders, toilets, and houses (extension to houses) 8. Massive expansion of availability of tap water 9. Robust foreign policy which retained India’s strategic autonomy (it’s under stress at the moment however because of Iran war). 10. Taught Pakistan a few lessons.

Maharashtrians should exercise some restraint in criticizing Abhijeet Dipke of the CJP. He is only 30. Give him time to evolve. Leadership takes time. Yet even today, he stands taller than any Maharashtrian in national politics over the last 70 years. Not even Pawar or Fadnavis has a social media following anywhere close to Abhijeet’s.

If you look at habitable/arable land the results are striking. Japan 3,000/sqkm, India 800/sqkm. And you feel the density when visiting Japan. Even China has 1,000/sqkm because most of the land is uninhabitable. So, “we have lots of people” is not an argument for disorganization, and “broken-ness” of many urban areas. Unfortunately, they had to leave India to do well in their careers. India should do better with retaining its top talent — but that requires valuing and rewarding meritocracy. On national issues front, Manipur issue is not resolved, took Vishwaguru 3+ years just to visit the state.

Why should I care whether a pilot is man or woman, a Brahmin, Khsatriya, Vaishya, or Dalit? When I am putting my life in someone’s hands by getting into a metal tube — the ONLY thing that matters is competence of the 2 people flying it. Everything else is immaterial — mostly virtue signaling.

What makes me most proud and hopeful about India? The number of female commercial pilots, the highest ratio in the world at 15%. A clear sign of what India can be. What makes me most unhappy: the mounds of garbage on the streets and lack of civic sense. Surely we can fix this?

PAKISTANI MEN WHO GANG-RAPED FRENCH WOMAN IN FRONT OF HER THREE CHILDREN AFTER DRAGGING HER FROM CAR HAVE HAD THEIR PHOTOS RELEASED AS THEY FACE EXECUTION Abid Malhi and Shafqat Ali have had their final appeal rejected and will be hanged after a court upheld their death sentences. The pair attacked a French-Pakistani woman on 9 September 2020 after her car ran out of fuel on the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway near Lahore, Pakistan. She remained inside the locked vehicle with her three terrified children when the men smashed a window, dragged her out at gunpoint and gang-raped her on the roadside in full view of the kids. They then stole her cash, jewellery and bank cards before fleeing. The woman gave police detailed descriptions, mobile phone data tracked the suspects, DNA from the scene matched both men, and one of them confessed before a magistrate. They were convicted in March 2021 of gang rape, kidnapping, robbery and terrorism offences. Their appeals were finally dismissed this week, clearing the way for execution.

Clearly, they are being asked to do it by their foreman — clearly, the owner of the construction company is fine with it. Cheaper than providing a proper elevator. Let’s not blame the poor laborers who have to do this or else they lose the job. There are many other desperately poor people to take that job.

Inviting for a disaster to happen, when accident takes place for their own fault, the government and labour officers will be blamed and will demand huge compensation.
