Made a iOS app to be the operating system for my family. Uses @Apple apis for calendar, weather, safari, reminders and cloud for managing memory. Uses the @OpenAI realtime api as the brain and voice to voice. And 3 layers of memory to sync across devices. Memory needs work but already works very very well so kids can easily understand what’s going today and what they need to do. And we play good cop bad cop so I don’t have to make them brush their teeth. Put big guardrails on privacy when Apple can roll Gemini into local this is going to be a huge unlock. Anyone else make an actually smart family OS to manage the madness?

This is wild. 143 million people thought they were catching Pokémon. They were actually building one of the largest real-world visual datasets in AI history. Niantic just disclosed that photos and AR scans collected through Pokémon Go have produced a dataset of over 30 billion real-world images. The company is now using that data to power visual navigation AI for delivery robots. Players didn't just walk around with their phones. They scanned landmarks, storefronts, parks, and sidewalks from every angle, at every time of day, in lighting and weather conditions that staged photography would never capture. They documented the physical world at a scale no mapping company with a fleet of vehicles could have replicated on the same timeline or budget. Niantic collected this systematically, data point by data point, across eight years, while users thought the only thing at stake was catching a rare Charizard. The most valuable AI training datasets in the world aren't being assembled in data centers. They're being built by people who have no idea they're building them.

@peterrhague It’s still growing nicely in the shadows in niche spaces. Niche doesn’t mean small, just focused vs one size fits all.

One technology that I really wanted to take off, but hasn't, is VR. I mean, I was a teenager the first time around, when the devices used CRTs and you needed a strong neck. Played the bird game in the arcades. The graphics on these devices was very naff. But modern devices (like the Meta Quest 3) which I own are fine. They are light weight, good image quality, decent passthrough for XR and responsive. But for some reason they don't seem to have evolved beyond toys. I've tried using them for serious 3D visualisation as part of my workflow, but its quite clunky to get them to do that. There seem a lot of barriers to development. What happened?

Seeing content made with Apple Vision Pro vs. actually wearing the device is kind of like reading the script vs. watching the movie. Sure, a script gives you the idea of what it’s about, but it will never immerse you in the story the way the movie does. It simply can’t. I always try my best to share what I experienced, but no matter how hard I try, the fact remains that screen recordings just don’t do the device justice and that I can’t show you “the Movie”. @kudoalbus @Apple @Logitech For sure just dm’ed. There is a separate companion app but only works if iOS device is on a different Apple ID since it’s using FaceTime.

@jimmygunawanapp @Apple @Logitech Just dm'ed it to you. Needs Muse to run. I made a separate iOS app to calibrate the world anchor manually, a bit hacky, but it works great once lined up! Also, both require a separate Apple ID since it's using FaceTime.
