@FlamesNation @GMCcanada It'll be a long time before Calgary fans blame their goalies for anything
English

@visotto1 @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third trade with a known quantity vs a lottery ticket in the draft.
You obviously don't understand how statistics work and thats only exacerbated by the fact that you used grok to get said statistics
I'm done lmao
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Oh so now it's a good argument again lol.
Those aren't my numbers, that's Grok. There's no need to speculate when we have the tools to find the answer.
Let me guess, stupid argument again now.
English

@visotto1 @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third You genuinely think that a superstar is only traded once every 4 years? Or a 500 point player once ever 2 years? If anything youve proven my point.
You just don't understand the argument forehead.
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third It was your argument genius.
“Contention windows open and close all the time. 1st overall guarantees a star player about around the same rate star players are available for trade"
English

@visotto1 @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Legitimately the dumbest argument you could have made
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Realistic NHL odds: A #1 overall draft pick has 25% chance of becoming a true superstar (1,000+ career points, like Crosby/McDavid/Ovechkin level; 72% play 500+ GP, 52% hit 500+ pts). Vs trading for a proven superstar in their prime? Extremely rare—most stay with their draft team
English

@visotto1 @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Contention windows open and close all the time. 1st overall guarantees a star player about around the same rate star players are available for trade
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third @grok What is the likelihood of a #1 overall NHL draft pick becoming a superstar vs a superstar player becoming available in a trade?"
English

@qQueueCue @visotto1 @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third So when in doubt, acquire skill often and have a development timeline for every single player. Flames are doing as much as they can without knowing future lottery luck.
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third So why didn't they just develope those guys better? It's that easy
English

@visotto1 @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Having a "core 4" is all well and good until you don't have the pieces around them to play the rest of the TOI
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Yes because thinking you have a better chance of developing a player that goes later in the draft as opposed to someone that goes earlier is idiotic and not worth mention
English

@nitwitschool @visotto1 @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third He also ignored my primary argument of player development to take the "lazy" route of criticizing my mention of Buffalo 🤣
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third I'm sure you know enough Oiler fans to know it doesn't suck to watch Leon and Connor play in the Stanley cup final two years in a row. And yeah Toronto's longest running playoff streak must be so hard to bare.
Teams that win it all have all drafted high at some point
English

@visotto1 @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third I used a couple other examples too. Edmonton, Toronto, could point to a few different teams that almost made it but never did.
Can also point to a couple teams that didn't intentionally tank and got a cup. Only 1 team wins each year, but that leaves 31 teams that lose
English

@nitwitschool @qQueueCue @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Venting frustration over your team only starting to play good when they have to chance at a playoff spot and hurting thier chances at a top pick in the draft is incredibly rational.
English

@visotto1 @qQueueCue @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Ok but there’s not a whole hell of a lot anyone can do about that. And even then, who’s to say a team like Vancouver doesn’t end up drafting 3rd. People are irrationally complaining as if there’s any reasonable thing that can be done.
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Buffalo is such a lazy argument.
It happened to one of 32 teams so clearly it's the likely outcome of Calgary picking high in the draft.
English

@visotto1 @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third You're acting like we don't. Doesn't mean shit if your prospects dont develop properly.
To use the buffalo example, theyve had 2 2 OAs go on to win cups on other teams 🤣
English

@qQueueCue @nitwitschool @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Yeah sure would suck to be Buffalo right now.
English

@nitwitschool @visotto1 @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Look at Buffalo. They got 2 1st overalls on their roster right now. Dahlin is a gem. They drafted in the top 10 nearly 10 years in a row and the vast majority of those guys arent even on the roster anymore
English

@nitwitschool @qQueueCue @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third I think most fans just realize that the odds of landing a difference maker increase the higher you pick. We want the best odds.
I for one don't want to suffer through 70 games to decrease those odds over the last 12
English

@qQueueCue @visotto1 @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third I think some fans want a cheat code. They want a sure thing so that when the time is right, they just have a perfect video game team with zero adversity. But it's pro sports in a cap era. That will NEVER happen.
English

@nitwitschool @qQueueCue @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third No team in the history of the NHL has needed McDavid to win a Stanley cup.
But how many do it without a top 3 pick
English

@visotto1 @qQueueCue @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third And he isn't McDavid.
I like Slafkovsky, I think Montreal would be just as big of a wagon with Cutter Gauthier or Logan Cooley.
English

@qQueueCue @CofRedCentral @visotto1 @Shekd_the_Third I'd argue Montreal doesn't have a McDavid, but I look at what they've built and I think they're going to win multiple cups. I really do.
English

@qQueueCue @CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third Right. I'm sure the sharks would have much preferred the experience of keeping players motivated over having to pick Macklin.... But I guess you get what you get.
English

@CofRedCentral @Shekd_the_Third @visotto1 Just remember: With this experience, Parekh and Gridin now see how to keep people motivated even when things seem glum. Thats how you keep away from a decade of Darkness for sure
