I don't think it's fair to only suspend one excise inspector & one sub inspector in the wake of the morning-walk murder of Brig. Joshi in Dehradun on the directions of the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. What does it prove & what does it solve? Instead, solutions will only emerge with honest introspection, genuine self analysis & a firm commitment to root out the variety of every day evils that have mushroomed rapidly across the state. We also need to accept that the murder is the symptom of a deep rooted malasie that has set in the political, administrative & policing systems in state. Thus, this suspension is nothing else but a meek eye wash; a sign of playing to the galleries instead of showing stellar qualities of commitment & leadership in distress! #Dehradun #Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand | In view of the sensitivity of recent criminal incidents in Dehradun, the Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth, chaired a high-level meeting at the Police Headquarters today. The meeting was attended by IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop, IG STF Nilesh Anand Bharne, SSP Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal, SSP STF Ajay Singh, and other officials. During the meeting, the DGP clearly assigned responsibilities and directed the IG Garhwal to ensure daily monitoring of the law and order situation in Dehradun. The SSP Dehradun was instructed to assign clear tasks to subordinate officers and ensure accountability, while maintaining effective policing in the region. The DGP further directed that Circle Officers and Station House Officers should remain actively present in the field, increase police visibility in identified hotspot areas, and ensure strict checking at barriers. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing police presence and alertness during early morning hours. @ANI It is interesting that it took the death of a high profile citizen a retired army general to shake the govt into some sort of action. When everyday some common man dies in Dehradun due to crime nobody bats an eye. That quote by Joker in The Dark Knight comes to mind here

In response to a recent law-and-order incident in Dehradun, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed strong displeasure and taken a firm stance. He clearly stated that there will be no compromise on maintaining law and order in the state under any circumstances. Following the Chief Minister’s directions, Sobhan Singh Up, Deputy Excise Inspector (Area-3, Mussoorie, District Dehradun), and In-charge Kuthal Gate Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar have been suspended with immediate effect. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to launch an extensive checking drive across the state and ensure strict action against all miscreants and troublemakers. He emphasised that incidents such as road rage, firing, and illegal late-night activities must be completely curbed. Reiterating that public safety is the top priority of the state government, the Chief Minister directed the police and administration to act with full strictness and vigilance. He also made it clear that any negligence in duty by officials and employees will not be tolerated. The Unfolding Story of #Dehradun: Phase One: Once upon a time Dehradun was a quiet city of grey hair & green hedges. Phase Two: Then came changes & the city changed its colors. It started having more people, more students & more tourists. It led to more crime with more gang wars & more road rage; mostly in the evening & night. Phase Three: Today, March 30, 2026; the city has moved a notch higher on the road rage & crime scale. It lost Brig Joshi (70), a veteran from Intelligence Corps, Indian Army. He was allegedly caught in a cross fire between two cars, driving at high speed & firing on Rajpur Road. Brig Joshi's fault? He was on his morning walk when the stray bullet incident took place between 6.45 and 7.00 AM. The retired officer collapsed on the spot & was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. What changed? We lost an innocent life. Lost in a city & state that has gradually become the most fertile for gang wars, goons, errant tourists & criminals of all shades. With a firm crackdown by the @myogiadityanath govt. in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh; #Uttarakhand has become a safe haven for gangs & mafias of all sorts to flourish. I feel sad for where we have reached & deeply concerned for where we are headed. What Will Happen Next: We, the people will be told that someone in our state got angry & asked the police to quickly catch the criminals. The cops will show urgency & send teams to apprehend the shooters. They will maybe catch a criminal or two, tell us some reasons & declare that the case is "closed". Mourning the dead: I hope that this tragedy stirs the collective conscience of the citizens & well heeled ex servicemen officers of the Doon Valley. I also hope that they will unite in unequivocally condemning this most ghastly incident & in showing the mirror + demanding improvements from the government in Uttarakhand regarding the collapse of law & order in the state.
