During the Inter-Ministerial Briefing on Recent Developments in West Asia, Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, shared an update on the current status of MSMEs in India and key initiatives undertaken by the Government of India.
➡️The Ministry is conducting stakeholder consultations regularly with MSME associations at the central, state and sub-state levels. All field offices of the Ministry of MSME are constantly in touch with micro, small, and medium enterprises.
➡️Over 20 lakh MSMEs were newly registered on the Udyam portal in February–March, taking the total number of registered units to over 8 crore. Credit support remains strong, with outstanding lending to MSMEs exceeding ₹36.7 lakh crore and annual credit growth at 23.5%.
➡️The collateral-free lending limit has been doubled from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh for micro and small enterprises, effective from 1 April 2026.
➡️Credit guarantee support also remained robust, with over 5.27 lakh guarantees worth ₹92,000 crore provided in February–March.
➡️On liquidity support, the TReDS platform has seen significant growth in invoice discounting, rising from ₹4,300 crore in 2022 to over ₹7 lakh crore currently, including ₹85,000 crore in February–March alone.
The Ministry continues to engage with all stakeholders and believes in a whole-of-government approach. The situation is being closely monitored and the Ministry of MSME remains committed to supporting micro, small and medium enterprises in India, Dr. Rajneesh said.
