@gringoathome @DavidAFrench You know what else is used as weapons by all governments, gangs, etc? Guns. The first and second amendments are equally sacrosanct .

These platforms are being used as weapons by all governments, organized crime, gangs, etc., to create false narratives, recruit, defame, defraud, you name it. The ability to target by very specific demographic criteria is very, very dangerous for host of reasons. Many adults are not safe casually putzing around on Facebook, etc., to say nothing of the children. And freedom of speech was fine prior to 2005.

I am alarmed by the negative influence of smartphones and social media on children. All of us should be. I am also worried that in our zeal to protect children from those negative influences that we will violate the Constitution and undermine free speech. nytimes.com/2026/03/29/opi…

@davidclowery omg. Now you are arguing that the word "implementation" is sufficiently distinct from the word "expression" so as to be able to be ignored?

Copyright is not a monopoly on ideas. It secures human expression. Go back to your law school textbooks on expression vs ideas. If it did grant a monopoly on ideas that would be bad. But it does not. You should and I suspect do know better but you are operating in bad faith. Also I’ve attached the historic Anglo-American law dictionary definition of property. No mention of property being physical.

@georgejohnson @davidclowery Copyright is state-granted monopoly on the implementation of a set of ideas. It is not real physical property.

@Noahpinion @HansMahncke I think it is worse: I do believe we are seeing the start of an early “organ market” opening up. There will be money made here … and more and more people in need of help are going to be euthanized instead.

Joe Rogan says there are “a lot of dorks” in MAGA: “That phrase sucks. America is great. Make America greater? I’m down. But MAGA, and then it becomes a movement of a bunch of dorks? A lot of them are these really weird, f-cking uninteresting, unintelligent people.”

@Publius981 @amconmag We didn't enter the war until Perl Harbor because we were selling weapons to both sides. By the end, most of Europe's and nearly all of Japan's industrial base was obliterated. That left the US as the world's lone exporter of manufactured goods. That was over by the 70s.

@amconmag America was great during WWII. Our industrial might won the war. We've lost that and allowed China, an adversary, to replace us. That's what Trump is talking about when he says MAGA.

@davidclowery AI is like Phish. It only appeals to people who have made the conscious decision to like it. They think there's more of them because if you say you don't like it, you're going to be stuck listening to a 30 minute Tweezer or watching video of a cat yodeling.

This is dumb. Yes there are deep learning tools like, stem spitters, instrument replacement, artificial vocals etc (largely trained on licensed music). But thats not “AI” the way Suno is, where you are completely outsourcing creativity and expression to a statistical algorithm trained on unlicensed music. That is not widely embraced. In fact it is frowned upon.
Rolling Stone@RollingStone

AI use is “the Ozempic of the music industry — everybody is on it, and nobody wants to talk about it,” Mikey Shulman, CEO of Suno AI music generator, recently said. #RollingStoneFutureOfMusic More: rollingstone.com/music/music-fe…

BLACK VOTERS ARENT SUPERMAN… WE NEED HELP
It would be nice if Wnite folks gave dems more support you know……. Latinos too. Black folks, we are on vacation. Trump isn’t worse than Reagan and this isn’t the first time we lived through war or high gas prices. We will be alright.

One of the big problems I have with much of today’s Democratic Party is the fact that many Democrats think it is more important to ensure everyone gets a slot than it is to keep Republicans from winning. What good does it do any of these demographics to have a MAGA governor?

@JPBillingsgate @mattyglesias Thank you for proving his point. Moore loved Sanders and hated Clinton, so therefore predicted Trump would win. It’s that simple. That he ended up being correct doesn’t mean his analytical method was sound. That’s literally the point of the tweet.

When Trump won in 2016, most sensible people were surprised because he was down in the polls and "the candidate who is up in the polls will probably win" is a sound forecasting principle. But people who "got it right" (i.e., used bad methods) gained prestige as a result.

@roanoke_gal @Noahpinion It's hardware vs software. Some people are born with software preinstalled that's not completely compatible with their hardware. I find it ironic that religious conservatives have such a hard time accepting mind/body dualism.

isn't gender a chosen identity by definition? else there's not much to distinguish between "gender" and "sex". socy 101, learned that back in the 90s. the bigger questions [where people actually differ] are: should people be allowed to express their gender if it's different from their birth sex, and should people be allowed to publicly switch their gender?

@CNN finally some common sense in energy policy. Those wind farms were gonna cost a fortune and barely keep the lights on when the wind dips. Pay 'em to pivot to real reliable power like oil and gas, America's got the resources, let's use 'em instead of chasing fairy dust.

The transformation of liberals into "progressives" since 2013 has seriously been the worst thing to happen to American culture in my lifetime. Just absolutely gutted so much of what was good about this country. End of a golden age.

@RadioFreeTom Has a president ever been reelected with inflation as high as it was under Biden? Republicans could have run miniature schnauzer and beaten Biden after that. He lost the second he decided to run. Harris lost the second she refused to say what she'd do differently.
