Some news: I’ve moved to London to join @Recursive_SI! 🚀 I'm excited to be building with this incredible team on a mission of recursive self-improvement and open-endedness, aiming to ultimately automate scientific discovery. 🧑‍🔬
Tim Rocktäschel@_rockt

Excited to co-found Recursive (@recursive_si) with an exceptional team in London and SF to create AI that experiments on how to safely improve itself, turning compute into knowledge that accumulates in an open-ended process of endless, automated scientific discoveries.

@elocinationn yea every era latches on the main technology as the root metaphor for life and i agree that more metaphors means more ideas! @jordanstrasser had one with cells to societies iirc

All models are wrong but some are useful, yes. Levin talks as if the pervasive view is life-is-not-machine, when in reality if you’ve had you’re eyes open for the past 3 years it’s the opposite problem, the machine/computer being projected onto biology is the one that’s being constantly over extended. This has been the case since Descartes’ clockwork universe imo. I think it constrains our imagination to what we’ve created. I’ve read a lot of his work and like the way he thinks about the world! I am of the view that more breakthroughs in biology will come when we focus more on how life analogizes with things like economies and societies and countries etc. will add that I’m thinking a lot about this in the context of cancer and how to treat it, which might not be obvious from the post. Everyone’s thinking a lot about consciousness atm, not rly my train of thought.

Living things: born incomplete, grow to maturity, compete for resources, decay, die, self-recycle, constantly in flux Machines: born complete, static, reducible to the same components across time I still struggle to understand how we analogize so readily between the two. Life really does not feel machine-like at all. What machines have features like the first category above? (RL is the absolute weakest version of ‘grow to maturity’ I can think of and it’s a stretch)

seeing a podcast before listening to it 👁️🦻 been working on a podcast timeline visualizer that shows: - what books/ideas/ppl are mentioned and how often - key concepts and moments across the whole episode - interactive scrubbing thru the ideas to get more context

What is the most powerful possible mind? Is there an equivalent of Turing-Completeness, but for intelligence? Intelligence-Completeness?

The idea stemmed from discussions with @matthieulc, inspired by DeepMind’s Genie to build a music world model that learns latent actions in musical space. He wrote a technical post about it! matthieulc.com/posts/melodjin…

Music is one of the most practical and scalable forms of experience exploration technology humans have. But it’s hard to make and find great music. AI music means tools that can navigate feeling space better than existing tools. (more below)

@rgblong not a playlist but an album. on the music sheet, Satie wrote «In order to play the motif 840 times in succession, it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand, and in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities» and performers took this seriously.

I've thought a few times about going startup before. With Gradium, the perfect opportunity arised. We're building unmatched speech products, now open to anyone. I will keep an active role leading ambitious research at Kyutai, while devoting most of my time as CSO of Gradium.
Gradium@GradiumAI

Gradium is out of stealth to solve voice. We raised $70M and after only 3 months we’re releasing our transcription and synthesis products to power the next generation of voice AI.
